The Wellbeing Barometer survey has become a crucial tool for schools, offering insights into youth mental health and wellbeing. By understanding community concerns and the nature of these issues, schools are better equipped to support families and foster meaningful conversations, thereby building stronger relationships.

This survey is part of an ongoing, longitudinal study, with the results being instrumental in tailoring support for students and their families. Participation is strongly encouraged, as it provides a comprehensive view of students' experiences, challenges, and achievements over the past year.

Participating in this year's survey, will assist St Luke’s in identifying areas of strength and concern, as well as pinpointing opportunities for early intervention. The survey aims to capture a comprehensive picture of young people's lives, allowing for a tailored approach to enhance mental and emotional wellbeing.

We encouraged you to complete either one or both of the surveys below, depending on the age of your children and the schoo (Primary or Secondary)l they attend. Please complete one survey for each child that you have in either primary or secondary school. There is no limit to how many times you can complete the survey. This will allow you to provide more accurate responses based on the individual children.

Remember, all responses remain anonymous and should reflect observations made over the last 12 months. Survey results are only reported on an aggregated basis

"Research suggests that one in six students experience heightened academic stress due to high workloads. Therefore we must first ensure the building blocks of wellbeing as nothing is more important than their physical and mental health."

NATIONAL DAY AGAINST BULLYING AND VIOLENCE DAY ACTIVITIES

St. Luke’s Students Unite Against Bullying with ‘Everyone Belongs’ Chain Link Activity

Last week, under the guidance of Ms. Nicole Jacka and King House Leader Jocelina Garcia, the students of St. Luke’s came together to participate in the ‘Everyone Belongs- Bullying No Way’ Chain Link Activity. This initiative was a meaningful contribution to the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, a day dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging students to stand up against bullying in all its forms.

In this activity, every student was given a strip of colored paper and encouraged to write or draw a positive message or an example of how to be an upstander—someone who supports and stands up for others who are being bullied. The colorful strips were then linked together to form a massive ‘Everyone Belongs’ garland, which was proudly displayed in our Marketplace. This vibrant and powerful visual symbolised our collective commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is an important event on the school calendar, reminding us of the impact of bullying and the role each of us plays in preventing it. By engaging in activities like the Chain Link initiative, students not only become more aware of the issues surrounding bullying but also learn practical ways to become upstanders in their daily lives. This day serves as a catalyst for change, promoting kindness, respect, and the importance of standing up for others.

The success of the Chain Link Activity at St. Luke’s demonstrated the strength of our community’s dedication to ensuring that everyone feels like they belong. The garland, stands as a testament to our ongoing efforts to create a supportive and bully-free environment.

Year 7 Students Engage in Interactive Performance on Cyberbullying and Mental Health

As part of the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, our Year 7 students recently attended a live performance titled Wired, which explores critical issues such as cyberbullying, mental health, and the importance of resilience. This powerful interactive theatre experience follows the lives of two students spiraling in different directions—one towards stress, anxiety, and overload, and the other towards depression and disconnection. The audience was actively involved in helping the characters choose a different, more positive path.

Wired addresses pressing issues faced by Australian students, including social isolation, online safety, school stress, family relationships, and the pressures of social media. Through this engaging performance, students were provided with valuable strategies for resilience, problem-solving, goal-setting, and maintaining positive mental health.

Developed in consultation with a clinical psychologist and based on current research, Wired not only stimulated meaningful discussion among students but also complemented our school’s existing wellbeing, anti-bullying, and mental health programs. The event concluded with a Q&A session, allowing students to delve deeper into the topics discussed and reflect on how they can apply these lessons in their own lives.
