Liturgy

On Thursday the 15th of August, St Luke’s community joined in prayer to celebrate the solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven.  SOF students were led in prayer and songs of praise by our enthusiastic Year 4 and Year 3 students! This joyful occasion included a beautifully organised liturgy honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary's Assumption into Heaven. Our students led us in prayer, readings, and songs, bringing the story of Mary's Assumption to life. It was a wonderful opportunity for our School of Foundations community to come together in faith, celebrate our students' efforts, and reflect on the significance of this important feast day.

Social Outreach

Catholic Mission

St. Luke’s will be partnering with Catholic Mission for the first time this year to support their outreach mission in Mongolia. As such, students have been learning all about being caring global citizens in Religion lessons. Representatives will visit the College on Friday the 30th to run workshops with our students to further this area of learning. Students will also participate in fundraising activities during the day.

Operation Christmas Child

This year we are once again participating in the Social Justice initiative of 'Operation Christmas Child' through the ‘Samaritan’s Purse’ organisation. This initiative involves packing a box full of items an underprivileged child from overseas can receive during the Christmas period.

This initiative will run from week 4 to week 10 this term and is something you can do at home together with your child/children. It requires a cost of $12.50 through the QKR app to cover the shipping of your box, providing Gospel materials, and in-country training through Samaritan’s Purse. You will also need to consider the personal cost of filling up the box with items.

If you would like to participate in this initiative this year, please make your $12.50 payment through the QKR app. Once completed, you can collect your box and label from the front office. You can decide if you would like to pack a box for a boy or girl from the following age groups shown on the label below.

These boxes will need to be returned to the office by Friday Week 10 so that they can be delivered in time for shipping.

For more information about who you can pack a box for and what can go into it, please see the link for boys and girls.

As always, thank you for your support and generosity!

YCS @ St Luke's:

Our YCS students had the opportunity to deeply engage with the NAIDOC WEEK activities. Demonstrating initiative and teamwork, they actively supported the Book Week team by organising engaging quizzes and trivia sessions for their peers in the Hub during lunchtime. At Mrs Camilleri's request, they enthusiastically decorated the Hub, setting a vibrant stage for the upcoming Book Week. Additionally, a dedicated group of YCS leaders is set to participate in the Blacktown Council Candidates Forum 2024 on September 5th, where they will address the pressing housing crisis in Sydney. At school, they are also organising a plenary session to pinpoint challenges within their area of influence, aiming to devise a robust action plan rooted in their guiding 'See-Judge-Act' philosophy.

The YCW Diocesan leader, Caoimhe Gorrell, and the YCS Youth Engagement Officer, Jordan Kiel Domingo, had the honor of presenting the YCS badges to our student leaders during the Leadership Meeting.
