YEAR 9 WORK EXPERIENCE REMINDER

Our Year 9 Work Experience Week is scheduled for Week 10, Term 2 (22nd – 26th June).

This is a fantastic chance for students to explore future career pathways, develop new skills and gain insight into different industries.

A reminder that Work Experience information and permission forms have now been emailed to all parents and issued as a hard copy to students. The green form is for the employer.

The pink form is to be completed and returned to A Block Student Services by the end of Week 8.

Please note that students are responsible for finding their own placement, with the support of their families where possible. Early action is strongly encouraged, as positions fill quickly, and the process of confirming placements takes time. If you have any questions or need further support, please contact the school: year9workexperience@pbc-shs.eq.edu.au

Thank you for supporting your child in this important learning experience. If your child is unsure what to do next, please encourage them to speak with their CARE teacher.

YEAR 9 CARE PROGRAM – SCHOOL NURSE ROTATIONS

During Care in Weeks 7 and 8 this term, our Year 9 students will participate in a range of health and wellbeing programs designed to support their personal development, safety and decision-making.

Students will take part in a session facilitated by the school nurse team from Queensland Health, focusing on age-appropriate health education, personal wellbeing, making informed choices and knowing where to access trusted support services.

In addition, students will engage in sessions delivered by their Care Teachers using resources from the E-Safety Commissioner. These lessons will help students develop their understanding of online safety, respectful digital communication and strategies for navigating the online world safely and responsibly.

These programs aim to equip students with practical knowledge and skills to support their wellbeing now and into the future.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AND VOLUNTEERING

PBC students have a strong sense of personal responsibility; demonstrate initiative and commitment to our school and our community. Additionally, there is research that has demonstrated the benefits of volunteering on wellbeing. Individuals who engage in regular community service or volunteering have better mental health, social connections, sense of purpose and life satisfaction. There is also consistent evidence that for those who reflect on their service these benefits are enhanced.

As a school we offer students relevant and meaningful opportunities to serve their school and broader community such as Leo’s Club, Sustainability Club, Duke of Edinburgh Program.

External community-based opportunities are included at local sporting clubs including unpaid refereeing or game officials e.g.: water runner or timekeeper, canteen volunteer, coach/assistant coach and clinics, maintenance work of facilities or equipment and any volunteer work at a club or community event.

Making your hours count - Community Service Recognition Every OPTIMA assembly dedicates a portion of the program to recognise the efforts of students participating in Community Service either in a PBC opportunity or externally.

For external opportunities students are asked to submit a community service participation form which details the activity they did, the date/s, hours completed and a contact person who can verify their participation. These forms are available from Student Services or can be downloaded from our school website.
