COMMUNITY NOTICEBOARD

AusAlert
We have been advised that testing of AusAlert, a new national emergency warning messaging system, will occur in the Geelong area on 18 June at 2PM.
AusAlert will be used during emergencies to send messages to Australians on their mobile devices. Mobile devices will include phones, tablets, smart watches, safety watches and some vehicle devices. A national community test will occur in late July and then AusAlert will be available for use by October 2026.
What to expect
During this test on Thursday 18 June, a priority alert will be sent to devices in the Geelong area. The targeted area is Highton and Belmont. Surrounding suburbs may also receive the message from nearby phone towers. Devices may vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for around 10 seconds. The message will clearly state that it is a test. No further action is required.
What to do
- To minimise disruption at school, please ensure all devices are set to silent or Do Not Disturb before the test at 2PM
- Students should continue to follow the Mobile Phones – Student Use policy, with phones switched off and stored securely in lockers or bags during the school day
- Learn more about AusAlert for children and teens. Information is also available in other languages.
