Year 5 Incursion

Immigration Journeys
Our Year 5 students recently participated in the engaging Immigration Journeys incursion. Throughout the session, students explored Australia’s rich immigration history and learned about the many journeys people have taken to make Australia their home. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and storytelling, students examined the reasons people migrate, the challenges refugees and immigrants may face, and the important role multiculturalism plays in shaping our communities today.
This learning experience connected closely with our English studies of the text Waves. As students read and analysed the text, they explored themes of migration, belonging, resilience, identity, and family. The incursion helped bring these ideas to life, allowing students to deepen their understanding of the experiences and emotions faced by people moving to a new country.
The program encouraged thoughtful discussions about empathy, global citizenship, and the importance of welcoming and inclusive communities. It was wonderful to see our Year 5 students so engaged, curious, and reflective as they connected their classroom learning with real-world stories and experiences.
