Stand Up Project
On Thursday 28th May, Year 5 classes attended a workshop presented by the Stand Up Project presenters, Tilda and Tori.
This is the third year we have had the Stand Up Project come out and work with our Year 5 students to support our implementation of SUP, so the focus of the workshop for our Year 5 cohorts has evolved over time. These current Year 5 students were actually the first group of BEPS students who had a student run workshop delivered to them. The very first group of Year 5 SUP leaders developed and presented to them, back in 2024. Now that we are three years into having SUP, we can really start to see how the learning journey about being an upstander is translating to student actions and understandings.
As our current Year 5s already have a good understanding of some of the foundations of the Stand Up Project- the concepts of Friendship Fires, Mean on Purpose and Bullying (repeated, targeted Mean on Purpose), the workshop this year focussed on further actions to support a growing shared vision and overall school culture of respect, such as the importance of shared language- a strong BEPS focus.
It was really powerful to hear the students share their understandings, experiences and ideas in the workshop and to see the importance of holding shared values as a school community and what that actually sounds like coming from the students themselves. At the end of the workshop, Tori and Tilda asked for volunteers to be the new 2026 SUP leaders and it was wonderful to see the sea of hands shoot up with enthusiasm and interest. Our newly selected group then went on to have another workshop after recess with Tilda and Tori to work on the next steps, but more about that in the next edition of the Buzz…
Stay tuned!
