Year 5 Spotlight

Alternative Sports
Across the year, the Year 5s have participated in a range of alternative sports programs and activities. In Term 2, 3 and 4, the students have had 4 – 6 weekly 50-minute blocks on a Friday that have included a range of activities:
- Term 2 - Taekwondo
- Term 3 - Table tennis
- Term 4 - Wheelchair sports
The Year 5 teachers and students would like to thank Geoff for his tireless work in accessing grants and organising the unique sports with qualified instructors and authentic equipment.
Here are what some of the Year 5 students have had to say about the Alternative Sports Program at FPS:

Wheelchair basketball was my favourite alternative sport because of our lovely instructor, Peter, and learning how to play in the wheelchair. I loved the sport so much and I wish that we had more time to play. ~ Saskia, 5C
Inquiry & Celebration of Learning
Year 5 students started the term off with a walking excursion to the Alphington Community Centre. This was to inspire the students as they engage in a Design and Technology unit.
This term, students are being asked to survey others, create floor plans, a model and plan a range of activities and facilities that cater for the diverse needs of all members of the local community. We look forward to seeing the students continue this work right up until the end of the term. We hope to have a celebration towards the end of the term with other classes and family members. Please keep an eye out for communication about this.
