Year 5 Update

Our Learning - Weeks 7 & 8
It has been an exciting and rewarding few weeks in Year 5 as we move toward the end of the school year. Our students have been deeply engaged in end-of-year assessments across English, Mathematics, and Humanities. These assessments have provided a wonderful opportunity for students to reflect on their learning journey and celebrate the incredible growth they have achieved throughout the year. Watching their confidence grow as they recognise their progress has been a highlight for both teachers and students.
In English, students have been working on their information reports, learning how to research, summarise, and present facts in their own words. They have explored how to structure engaging introductions, clear paragraphs, and strong conclusions, and are now publishing their reports with multimodal elements such as maps and diagrams.
In Mathematics, our focus has been on chance and probability. Students have enjoyed hands-on activities and games to explore concepts such as likelihood, fairness, and probability using fractions and decimals. They have also investigated independent and dependent events and applied their understanding to design their own games.
In Humanities, we have been examining global differences and sustainability. Students compared the lives of children in different countries and discussed how wealth, education, and environment shape opportunities. They also proposed sustainable actions to address local issues, developing persuasive arguments supported by evidence.
As we approach the final weeks of Term 4, we are proud of the resilience, curiosity, and effort our Year 5 students have shown. We look forward to finishing the year with continued learning and celebrations of their achievements.
