Before & After School Care

Weekly Highlights - Term 4 Week 3
National Children's Week
National Children's Week is an annual celebration held around the fourth Wednesday in October in Australia. It aims to promote awareness of children's rights and achievements, recognising that children deserve to enjoy their childhood. The week encourages children to showcase their talents and skills while fostering national participation and support for their well-being.
Children from Lalor East TheirCare were able to explore their own choice of play experiences , from clay play to making slime and cooking children were able to explore. Based on our children's ideas we also continued to look after our garden and plant some parsley this time. Children were also encouraged to explore physical play as we did Gaga Ball, Soccer, Lava Monster outdoors and Tag, run competition, green light red light, down ball inside our gym space.

Halloween Week
This week our children were able to celebrate Halloween week, from playing world search games to creating spooky 3D boxes children were able to explore different ways of learning. It was also amazing to see children interested in science as we also made spooky slime.
Cooking was always part of our embedded practices here at Lalor East and this week our children were able to learn how to make tuna, avocado sushi and cinnamon scrolls. Teaching children to cook is one of the best ways to develop a positive relationship with food. There are lots of ways to do this, at any age! It gives children exposure to food without having the pressure to eat it, but when they’re involved in preparation, they’re often more open to trying and eating different foods.
Weekly Highlights - Term 4 Week 5
Welcome to our weekly TheirCare recap. This week has been an amazing week, starting with our PFD on a Monday: we had a chance to spend the day at our service cooking, Lego competition play, clay exploration and our best puppet show set up.
Children at our service this week were able to explore junior yard as we played Gaga Ball, obstacle challenge and soccer. We also explored our big playground and did some group activities like running competition. Gym play was also part of our program where children were able to play tags, down ball, dance and play free ball play activities.
Part of our ASC routine these couple of weeks have been also looking after our new pets Lilly and Blacky our cat pets, It has been amazing watching children show empathy towards animals as they always remind me that we need to look after our cats and feed each day. Interacting with a cat can help children develop empathy. Children can learn how to read their cat’s body language, realising when the cat is hungry, ready to play, or in need of some cuddles. This teaches children to be considerate of others' needs, humans and animals alike.
