Sustainability

Re-think, Reduce, Re-purpose and Recycle
This term, the Year 3 classes are undertaking an Inquiry unit focusing on the 'War on Waste!'. As part of this unit, students have been looking at Fast Fashion, and it's significant impact on the environment. Fast Fashion contributes to excessive water use, pollution, and textile waste. The rapid production of cheap, trend-driven clothing leads to large amounts of fabric dye entering waterways, high carbon emissions from manufacturing and transport, and millions of garments ending up in landfill each year due to their short lifespan.
To help reduce these impacts, Year 3 students were asked to bring in an old t-shirt from home, which we re-purposed into a tot bag!
As consumers, we can choose more sustainable options such as buying fewer but higher-quality pieces, shopping second-hand, repairing or upcycling clothing, and supporting brands that prioritise ethical production and environmentally friendly materials. At school, we are educating students about sustainable choices, and encouraging a culture of mindful buying.
Happy Birthday, CDS Vic!
Another Year of Making Every 10¢ Count.
Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme turns two this November, and it’s a great milestone.
In those two years, the community of Victoria has worked together to return more than two billion containers. That’s more than two billion containers out of landfill, out of our parks, bushland and waterways, and off our beaches. It’s also more than $200 million back into Victorians’ pockets.
