The Year 6 students are currently bringing their bikes to school each Friday to participate in the bike education program. During the program, they complete a number of different riding drills that help to build their confidence and competency on the bike. After an unfortunate wash-out in Week 4, it was terrific to see the students enthusiastically taking part in a postponed first session last week. These sessions promise to be a lot of fun and a great way for the children to be active and learn to ride in a safe manner.
The bike education program culminates in a 'Bike Hike' to Bayswater Park on Thursday, 4th of December.

The Year 6 students will be heading to the Melbourne IMAX cinema on Thursday, 27th November. Whilst there, they will watch two films, Volcanoes 3D and Wild Weather, as part of their Term 4 Natural Disasters Inquiry unit. Like the Parliament excursion earlier this year, transport on the day will be by train. Students will meet and depart from Mitcham Station before returning to Mitcham in the afternoon and walking from there to school for a 3.30pm finish.
Please ensure you have accessed Compass to pay for your child's attendance and give permission. Further information will be sent out by your child's teacher in the coming fortnight regarding specific times and details.

National Fairy Bread Day is 24th November. The Year 6 captains and Graduation Committee members will be organising this day as a Graduation fundraiser. The school “fairies” will deliver the fairy bread to all classrooms in time for morning tea on the day.
The cost is $1 for 2 triangle halves of fairy bread (ie. 1 full slice). Please order on the Compass App under the Canteen Menu.
The Graduation Committee wish to thank you for your ongoing support in raising funds for their special night on 15th December.

We are excited to be celebrating Numeracy Week at VPS next week. As part of the Maths fun, students are encouraged to wear free dress this coming Monday, 17th November. There is just one 'catch' - the free dress top that they wear needs to have a distinct colour. This is so that data related to the colours worn by students can be gathered and used in a Maths activity during the week.
Maths - operating with positive and negative integers
Literacy - cause and effect, identifying formal language in reports, text analysis of class novel 'Sick Bay'
Writing - researching and paraphrasing skills
Inquiry - researching and designing a presentation for a natural disaster-themed project
Science - planning an experiment to test a scientific theory

FOOD FOR FAMILIES FUNDRAISER

We’re excited to announce that our school will be supporting the Food for Families fundraiser this year!
From Monday 17th November until Wednesday 3rd December, we’ll be collecting non-perishable food items to donate to families in need during the Christmas season.
There will be three collection points around the school — at the Office, Library, and Learning Centre. On the night of our Christmas Market and Carols, families are also welcome to bring donations to the collection point at the event.
This initiative is proudly put together by our Student Council Representatives, who will be helping collect and repack donations ready to send to families who need a little extra support this Christmas. Even a single item can make a big difference to someone’s holiday season!
Unfortunately, we will be unable to accept:
Thank you for helping us spread kindness and generosity throughout our community this Christmas!
