Year 12 ATAR Students WACE Exams

WACE exams commence on Monday, 28 October, and continue until Friday, 15 November. All examinations, except Japanese and French, are held on-site at Applecross SHS.

The following items are required and NON-NEGOTIABLE when attending every WACE examination:

• SCSA Personalised WACE Timetable (if this has been lost, students can get another BEFORE they attend their scheduled exam from student services). You will not be allowed to sit the exam without this item.

• Photo ID. This can be a driver’s licence, passport, or current SmartRider card.

A few students make organisational mistakes each year when sitting exams, such as forgetting their timetable or failing to attend an exam due to mixing up times, dates, or venues. This is a grave mistake to make because there are no resits available.

Misreading a timetable is not an acceptable reason for missing an exam. In addition, students who have not taken a minimum of four exams start to think about not taking the final WACE exam. This cannot occur under any circumstances.

Failure to sit the final WACE exam will result in no credit towards their WACE for having completed the course (please see statement below in italics). They will have sat in the class for a whole school year for no reason other than learning the content. All students must sit all exams and give their best effort. If a student is identified as a non-trier because they have put in minimal effort, the statement below from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority also applies.

Suppose students do not sit any WACE ATAR course examination and do not have an approved Sickness/Misadventure Application for that course. In that case, the pair of units completed in that year will not contribute towards any of the WACE requirements. Students who do not sit the WACE exam will not have a course mark or grade recorded on their WASSA, nor will they receive a report for that ATAR course.

I want to encourage the following strategies to ensure students attend their exams at the correct time and minimise potential last-minute stresses:

• Parents/Guardians have all their child’s exams in whatever sort of calendar or diary they use with the appropriate reminders. Ensuring students attend on the right day is a team effort.

• Give yourself plenty of time to get to your exams. Arrive early. You don’t need to hang around with the other students if that doesn’t suit you. There are plenty of quiet places. Few things are more stressful for students than being late for exams.

• Please ensure you know what school you are going to and where it is. I strongly recommend visiting the school before the exam.

• A copy of the exam timetable is kept in multiple places, such as on the fridge, where it will be seen regularly.

• Students have an additional copy of their timetable in their bag to bring to the exam. This is not their primary copy; it is a backup. Always get the same bag so the timetable is there. ATAR exams are not a fashion parade. The one bag makes you confident that you always have a copy.

• Pack your bag the night before. It would be best if you only had to pick it up and leave in the morning.

• If you forget your copy of the timetable, don’t panic. Come to the Main Reception or Student Services, and we will give you another one.

Absence from WACE Exams

Any student who does not sit a WACE exam must fill out a Sickness Misadventure Form available from the school. There are no exceptions. Without this, they will not be credited for completing the course (see the Year 12 ATAR Students: WACE Exams article). These need to be approved by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA). A medical certificate MUST cover a medical absence. A note from a parent is not acceptable. Please get in touch with Ebony Morrison or me if you have any questions.

📘 Year 12 Reports & Email Access – Important Reminder

As the school year concludes on 18 December, Year 12 students and their parents will no longer have access to:

  • School reports
  • Student email accounts

We strongly encourage all Year 12 students to:

✅ Download all school reports

✅ Save or transfer any important information from their student email account

Please ensure this is done before 18 December to avoid losing access to important documents and communications.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

OLNA Results - Term 3, 2025

Students in Years 10, 11, and 12 who participated in the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) during Term 3, should now have received their results.

Individual Student Reports are available under the Reporting tab in SEQTA. We recommend that parents download and retain a copy of the OLNA results for future reference.

Students who are required to re-sit the OLNA will have the opportunity to do so in Term 2, Weeks 2 and 3 of 2026. These students will soon receive a list of the skills and understandings that they found challenging in the assessment and should take the time to focus on targeted improvement using the OLNA Support website.

To maximise their chances of success, all students are strongly encouraged to regularly review the emailed templates and reference sheets, and complete the Skill Builders available on the OLNA Support website. These resources are designed to reinforce key skills and build familiarity with the assessment format.
