Canberra Tour 2025
In Week Two of this term, Lower School students participated in the annual Canberra tour. Joining Ms Walner, Mr Dickson and Ms Nicholson, the students toured Parliament House and gained valuable insights into Australia’s federal system of government and the nature of our democracy. Much of Australia’s democratic history unfolded at Old Parliament House, with the opportunity to discover national treasures and hear the extraordinary stories of the many people who have shaped our nation. Remembering and honouring those who have risked and sacrificed for our nation and our values, the tour of the Australian War Memorial brought to each student a greater appreciation of the actions so many have taken in the pursuit of peace over more than a century.
The Canberra tour also provided students with the opportunities to explore the national capital from the National Exhibition Centre, around Lake Burley-Griffin and from the top of Mount Eliza while also enjoying the culture of the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery.
Timing proved perfect for the tour as the departure allowed many of the students to meet and mingle with Federal politicians as they congregated at the airport for their return flights home, including local member Sam Lim.
Terracotta Warriors
Senior School Ancient History students took a big step back in time when visiting the W.A. Museum’s special exhibition of Chinese Emperor Qin Shin Huang and his vast preparations for the afterlife.
Along with studying his legacy as the founder of one of the world’s great empires, students examined the archaeological techniques used to locate, protect and preserve artefacts from antiquity.
Ancient History teachers Ms Ludowyck and Mr McConnell advise anyone interested in the deep past to see this extraordinary exhibition before it leaves in late February next year.
Year 10
Please be reminded of the upcoming Year 10 HASS exams. Students are encouraged to check in with their teacher over the next several periods to ensure that they are familiar with what is required in the exams.
