It’s been a busy and exciting couple of weeks at EVPS!

Our Year 4 students enjoyed an amazing CYC City Camp, travelling by train and spending two nights exploring the Melbourne CBD. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to explore the city, develop independence, and share lots of memorable moments with friends and teachers. Our Year 3 students had a fantastic day at Golden Valleys Adventure Camp, a day full of a wide variety of activities, teamwork and fun in preparation for their first overnight adventure next year.

Students represented EVPS proudly at the Division Hot Shots Tennis and Year 3 & 4 Soccer Gala Day, showing great sportsmanship and enthusiasm. A big thank you to all staff for their time, care and organisation in making these wonderful experiences possible.

Phonics Filming ... Movie Stars at EVPS

EVPS is feeling very proud of our Prep and Year 1 Teachers and students as we were recently recognised by the Department of Education as an exemplary school for implementing the new Phonics Plus program.

Phonics Plus is a resource designed to explicitly teach early reading skills, helping our youngest learners build strong foundations in literacy. Next year, the program will be extended to include our Year 2 and 3 students as well.

We were thrilled to have some of our Foundation and Year 1 classes filmed for the Department’s website. These short clips will be used to support teachers across Victoria in delivering high-quality phonics instruction.

A huge congratulations to our Foundation and Year 1 teams for their outstanding teaching and dedication - you’ve set the bar high and we couldn’t be prouder!

Prep 2026 Transition

On Wednesday we held our first Prep Transition session, with 57 enthusiastic future preps in attendance! The parents also stayed to hear all about EVPS. Over the next two Wednesday’s, our new 2026 preps will continue their transition journey, getting to know our school environment and teachers. We’re so excited to welcome them and their families to the EVPS community.

Staff Spotlight

A big congratulations to Georgina and Bec S for completing the Leaders in the Making Course. This is a Network initiative that develops the leadership capacity of our teachers and we are proud of their growth and the networking with other schools over the duration of the course.

Safe parking around schools

We all share a responsibility to keep our school community safe during drop-off and pick-up times. Please take extra care around crossings, follow the parking signs, and avoid stopping in no-standing zones. Together, we can ensure the safety of all our students and families. 🚸

Reminder from the previous newsletter: we invite you to share your views to help make our school safer.

The Department of Education is inviting parents and carers to take part in an online survey.

The survey seeks views on how the department can best protect school communities from harmful behaviour by parents and carers, and other adults:

· on school grounds and other places school activities happen

· online including social media.

Harmful behaviours can include abusive, aggressive and disruptive behaviours, including on social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp.

The survey will help the department:

· better understand community attitudes around this issue

· seek input on whether stronger protections are needed for school communities.

The survey closes at 11:59 pm on Monday 10 November 2025.

To access the survey, refer to Keeping school staff safe onsite and online on the Engage Victoria website.
