2025 VCE VM

What a year it has been for our cohort of students in the VCE VM programme! We welcomed our new Year 11 students into the programme and they embraced the challenges with enthusiasm and resilience.

We enjoyed some wonderful off site events. I guess the highlight was the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in March of this year with 11VM. They had a great day, looking at the different employment opportunities available as well as enjoying the qualifying session of the main race. Did we manage to catch a glimpse of Lewis Hamilton? I am afraid not. Maybe next year however the new kid on the block, Oscar Piastri will probably be the go to person next year!

One of the outcomes for 12VM is being able to work cohesively and problem solve in a team. The Spaghetti Bridge Challenge certainly tested the resolve of each of the students as well as testing their ability to work together. The students were put into teams, given particular props including a packet of spaghetti, tape and constructed the tallest structure that would hold a heavy weight! It was fascinating to observe how students interacted and who had natural leadership qualities.

The visit to the Trades Hall in Carlton was an eye opener. It was an important visit which highlighted the workplace practices so vital for a safe working environment. The building was magnificent and held so much history with the tour opening our eyes to the battles lost and won by Australian workers.

Lastly, 12VM ended the year gaining qualifications in various areas of hospitality. All students took part in Job Camp where they acquired qualifications in Barista Skills, RSA (Responsible serving of alcohol), Food Hygiene Practices for Food Safety as well as an introduction to the serving of Non-Alcoholic Beverages. The certification enables our VM students the opportunity to work in the hospitality industry. They worked brilliantly and I must say my double shot latte and non alcoholic Mojito was excellent.

I am incredibly proud of our VM students but in particular our Year 12’s. On behalf of the VM staff - Ms Anagnastopoulos, Ms Giarrusso, Mr Tsolakis, Mr Baron, Mr Cabai, Mr Lambrianidis, Mr McDowell and Ms Duyker, I want to wish you all the very best for the future.

Hold your heads up high and be the best versions of yourselves as you navigate the next chapter of your lives.
