Learning & Teaching

Following on from our last newsletter, we have now completed a detailed analysis of the feedback provided by staff, students, and families on Mathematics practices at St Joseph’s. This valuable input has helped us identify clear implications for how we can continue to strengthen teaching and learning across our school.
From this analysis, several key actions have been implemented:
Alignment with MACS’ Vision for Instruction: Teaching practices are being reviewed and refined to ensure strong alignment with the MACS Vision for Instruction, supporting evidence-informed, purposeful, and consistent approaches to high-impact teaching across the school.
Increased parent communication through Learning Previews: These snapshots are now shared with families to provide greater visibility of classroom learning, enabling parents to engage more confidently in conversations about learning at home.
Professional learning in the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM): Staff participated in targeted professional learning to deepen understanding of strategies that promote engagement, emotional regulation, and positive classroom climates - helping all students to feel ready and motivated to learn.
Planning documents reviewed and updated: Our planners have been refined to better support the clear delivery of key mathematical concepts and ensure a cohesive lesson flow. These updates help teachers sequence learning intentionally, reduce cognitive overload, and make learning connections explicit for students.
Increased focus on engagement: Teams are identifying and embedding evidence-based engagement strategies within mathematics lessons to foster curiosity, persistence, and joy in learning.
These steps are part of our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, engaging, and inclusive learning experiences for all students. We will continue to use feedback and evidence to guide our next steps and keep our community informed as our work progresses.
