Garden Club

Mr Jorgen Choong

At the Garden Shop

Last Wednesday, 29 October, the Garden Club had their very first ever garden shop. We had lots of different items on sale like seeds (vegetables and flowers), fertilisers and paper planter boxes. I think the best sellers were the pots of aloe Vera and pigface.

Thank you to the mums who helped at the shop (Fiona, Elaine and my mum Sandra) and the garden club students who spend their time looking after the garden. Of course, we can't forget Mr Choong who takes time out of his day to make the Garden Club possible. So, a huge thank you to you. It is so very appreciated! Hope to see you all at the next Garden Shop.

Protect Our Feathered Friends: Stop the JunkFood Diet!

Our beautiful native Australian birds, such as the Australian White Ibis (or 'Bin Chicken'), Noisy Miners and Magpies are facing a hidden danger right here in our playground: junk food.

We’ve noticed them eating discarded bread, chips, biscuits, processed meat and other scraps. While these leftovers seem edible, they completely lack the essential nutrients birds need to survive, fly and raise healthy chicks. Our birds are losing their natural 'food culture' and becoming reliant on a diet that leads to malnutrition and illness.

To truly help our native wildlife thrive, we need a collective effort! Please commit to keeping our school grounds completely free of edible scraps -  no more accidental feeding. We are already starting a positive change!

The enclosed photos show a native birdseed mix that has germinated. This is the healthy, natural food our birds should be eating. Let’s encourage them to return to their proper diet by keeping our scraps to ourselves!

When is Garden Club?

Garden Club happens on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, right after the gates open. We meet at the bubblers on the Churchill Avenue side of the school.

Garden Club is completely FREE to join! It's a great opportunity to learn to be a lateral thinker with limited resources, get first pick after a harvest, and see some fascinating creatures.

The information shared here is based on our experiences and knowledge, but we are not gardening experts. Think of it as friendly advice from one garden lover to another. Please remember that all gardening activities should be done with adult supervision and that you are responsible for your own safety and decisions.
