This week’s Boarder of the Week is Fergus Giles in Year 10. Ferg has been awarded Boarder of the Week for his initiative and service to the Speirs House.
He definitely goes about his business in a way that brings enjoyment to the boys of the House. Working quietly to clean the House up and be a good mate to those in his year level and below.
We appreciate your work, Ferg, and the happiness it brings to the entire House.
What I enjoy most about the boarding house is that, after a long day of school, there are numerous opportunities to fill your time before dinner. For me, this usually includes kicking the footy or going for a run with mates. After dinner, we have something called ‘prep’; this is where we complete all our homework. I come from a farming background, and we don’t live close to many things, so boarding has broadened my horizons and given me more ideas about what I can do later in life.
Prep has also helped me work to my max. The boarding house has several pros, but also a couple of cons. The showers often run out of hot water in the mornings because everyone uses them at once. And although we do get some hot meals for breaky, it’s only a couple of times a week (but they are good when we do!). Overall, the boarding house has taught me how to learn more effectively and look out for new opportunities in life.

What better way to blow off some steam and have fun at the same time? The annual Mexican night and Piñata is a great night for a laugh.
The Mexican-themed quiz was a bonus, with Mac House taking out the House points, which, I might add, places them in a very strong lead for the inaugural House Cup in 2025. Go Mac House girls!
Although there were some very strong swings out of our Piñata, some connected, but most did not! Speirs House probably did take out the win for the Pinata challenge.
