Child safety and wellbeing at SKiPPS: information for families and the school community

St Kilda Park Primary School is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.

Our child safety framework explains how we support and maintain child safety and wellbeing at SKiPPS. It includes our:

  • Child Safety Policy
  • Child Safety Reporting and Responding Obligations Procedures, and
  • Child Safety Code of Conduct, which outlines acceptable and unacceptable behaviours for all staff and volunteers at our school.

Our students and families are important partners in providing a child safe environment. These regular newsletter reminders are one of the ways we ensure our school community is aware of:

  • our commitment to child safety, and
  • how to provide feedback or raise child safety concerns.

If you have any concerns about child safety at any time, please contact Neil Scott on 03 8598 6444. Any child safety complaints or concerns are treated seriously. For more information about our school’s complaints process, see our Complaints Policy.

We also welcome your ideas on ways we can improve our approach to child safety and wellbeing. If you have any suggestions or comments please contact Neil by phone or email neil.scott@education.vic.gov.au

Sun Smart Policy - begins 1st September

With the Spring season upon us next week, students will be required to wear their Sun Smart hats when outside every day (including during sport activities and break times outside) from Monday 1st September as per the school policy.

In addition, each child must have a container of sunblock in his/her bag.  A roll-on sunblock is recommended, and parents are expected to supervise the application of sunscreen before going to school in the morning .

Wide brim hats can be purchased from the school office for $10 if required.

Dad's & Carer's Camp 2025

Tickets go on sale Monday 1st September at 10am

As per last year, the 2025 Dad's & Carer's Camp will be held in Wye River on the Great Ocean Road on 12th - 14th December. With beach and mountains as your backdrop, Wye River is a picturesque camping spot. Located right on the beach and just 20 minutes from Lorne, or 35 minutes from Apollo Bay, it's an easy 2-hour drive from Melbourne.

For the benefit of new parents to the school, over the last 10 or so years, small alternating groups of dedicated Dads have developed a tradition of taking their kids away for a weekend of activities, food, music, movies and general fun in the sun. Over the years the camp has grown from a small group of Dads & kids to a large event for the whole community.

Early Bird Tickets go on sale at 10am Monday 1st September and are limited, so move quickly to secure your place.  To assist us, the campground and our suppliers be prepared as early as possible, we are opening tickets early this year, and keeping prices the same as 2024 during the month of September (save 10%).

Tickets available herehttps://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1453182?qr=true&qr=true

To be clear, this is NOT a school organised event but a privately coordinated event. No school staff are in attendance and supervision of children remains the responsibility of individual parents all weekend.

Gathering Parent and Carer Feedback

At SKiPPS we place great value on the input of our families, and right now there are two ways you can share your feedback with us.

Education Department Parent/Carer Opinion Survey

Each year the Department of Education runs the Parent / Carer Opinion Survey, which gives families an opportunity to share their perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

  • The survey is open from Monday 18 August to Friday 19 September 2025.
  • It takes around 20 minutes to complete and can be done on a desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone.
  • Families can complete the survey in English or in 10 other languages.

A Compass message with the survey link and PIN was sent to all families on Monday of this week. Participation is optional, but we encourage all parents and carers to take part. The results help us identify areas for improvement, guide professional learning, and inform school planning.

SKiPPS School-Level Parent Survey

In addition to the Department’s survey, SKiPPS is also running our own school-level parent survey. This gives us a slightly different set of data and, importantly, provides families with the opportunity to leave written comments

These comments are extremely valuable in helping us understand your perspectives in more detail.
