Year Five

Spotlight on Learning

Bethany Community

Dear Bethany Families,

This week we honoured the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary by celebrating at our Community Mass. 2025 is a Jubilee Year and the Church has are called to walk together as "Pilgrims of Hope". Mary, as the first and most faithful pilgrim, shows us how to carry hope in times of joy and sorrow.

A quick reminder that Monday is Book Week, and all families are invited to our yearly gathering and parade at 9am on the basketball court. It will be exciting to see all of the students dressed up to represent their favourite book.

As students bodies are developing, we ask families to ensure students have enough nutritious food packed in their lunchboxes to sustain their energy levels and attention throughout the day.

Next week we will be learning about...

Religious Education Focus:

Children will be discussing the nature of the Holy Spirit and its impact in our lives.

English Focus

Students will continue reading 'Tom Appleby Convict Boy' by Jackie French. The students are enjoying the story of a boy named Tom which is set in 18th century England, and in the convict era in Australia. In English the students will continue to analyse the vocabulary in the text as well as adding to their writing of an Information Report. The focus next week will be on body paragraphs using the SPO (Single Paragraph Outline).

Mathematics Focus

After completing a unit on decimals, and learning how to round decimals to the nearest tenth and hundredth, the students will use these skills to choose appropriate metric units when measuring the length, mass and capacity of objects.

Auslan Focus

Next week we will learn the signs from Unit 7.The students will practise signing different pencil colours and then ask a partner which is their favourite.

Social/ Emotional Learning Focus:

Next week students will investigate "Gender Policing", which is an act when people enforce gender stereotyping by enforcing their attitudes and prejudices.

Integrated Studies:

Students will be learning what puberty is and how it can look different for everyone. They will be learning about some physical, emotional, and social changes that happen during puberty and starting to look at strategies they can use to manage some of these changes.
