Pass the Baton - Commemorating 80 Years Since the End of WWII

On August 16th, Our student leaders represented JJ Cahill Memorial High School at the Pass the Baton event, marking 80 years since the end of WWII. This important event, organised by the Department of Education, Teachers Federation, and Japan Club of Sydney, was deeply moving.

We were honoured to hear from survivor Keiko Ogura, who was just 8 years old when the atomic bomb struck Hiroshima. Her powerful message about the impacts of nuclear weapons and the urgent need for peace truly inspired us all.

Thank you to our students Bagus, Alya, Ryan, Sienna, Amy, Aylin, and staff members Mr Nguyen and Ms Batista De Mello for your participation and support.

MCA's C3West Initiative

Year 10 and 11 Students Engage in Inspiring Art Workshop with Renowned Artist Dennis Golding

On August 20th, our Year 10 and 11 students were privileged to participate in a unique and enriching workshop facilitated by acclaimed artist Dennis Golding. This workshop was part of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia’s (MCA) C3West initiative, a creative program designed to connect young people with contemporary art practices through hands-on experiences. The initiative is delivered in partnership with Bayside Council, aiming to foster community engagement and support emerging local artists.

During the interactive session, Dennis Golding guided students through various artistic techniques and encouraged them to express their creativity by producing original artworks. These pieces are not just classroom projects; they will form an integral part of a large-scale public art installation set to be unveiled on the picturesque foreshore of Kamay Botany Bay later this year. This installation will celebrate the cultural and environmental significance of the area, enhancing public spaces and enriching the community’s connection to local heritage.

We are honoured that our students have the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful and high-profile project. This experience has allowed them to develop new artistic skills, gain insight into contemporary art practices, and understand the importance of community collaboration in creative endeavours.

We look forward to seeing the final installation and celebrating the impact of our students’ contributions to this exciting cultural initiative.
