Book Week at BPS Recap

We have had a wonderful time celebrating Book Week at BPS this year.

Thank you to all the students who dressed up as their favourite book characters (and the families who helped put costumes together behind the scenes). The students looked amazing and there was a special buzz in the air!

Thank you to our wonderful library captains, Abbie, Wil & George, who ran our special Book Week Assembly. And final thanks to all of the teachers who were involved in making this special celebration happen!

Meerkat Productions

The students in Prep – Year 3 were lucky to watch a performance of ‘The Garden of Broken Things’. This shortlisted book by Freya Blackwood had been adapted for the stage by Meerkat Productions. It tells the story of Sadie, who discovers the power of friendship and listening to each other. The students loved watching the characters come to life in front of their eyes!

Author/Illustrator Workshop

Last Monday, author and illustrator Jess Racklyeft, facilitated workshops with students in Year 4 and 5. She shared her wisdom and experience writing and illustrating an impressive number of books, across different genres. Students in Year 5 were guided through a ‘long’ drawing, spanning three A4 pages, while students in Year 4 were given advice on how to illustrate the informative texts they’re producing in class.

Teacher Book Swap

Teachers swapped classes for a brief time, in order to share a favourite book with a different group of students. This has become an annual tradition at BPS, and an experience that is enjoyed by teachers and students alike!

SHORT STORY COMPETITION 2025

Thank you to everyone who entered the BPS short story competition. The judges were blown away by the number of amazing entries. The stories were shortlisted by a number of teachers and then the winners for each category were chosen by a panel of judges.

This year, they decided to add a separate category for Prep, in addition to categories for Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6.

The winners received a book voucher for Beaumaris Books. Please enjoy reading their stories published below.

All stories can be collected from the office (please do so by the end of term).

Prep - Lyla B in Prep H

The judges couldn’t wipe the smiles off their faces as they read Lyla’s story. They loved going on an adventure with Kate, Masey & their buffalo friend as they worked their way through the big, scary maze.

Year 1 & 2 – Abby F in 2A

The judges were impressed with Abby’s idea, her use of language, and ability to take the reader on a magical journey.

Year 3 & 4 - Aura A-R in 3MS

The judges chose Aura’s story because it had a very creative response to the theme: Book an Adventure. It featured a circular ending with some great descriptions along the way.

Year 5 & 6 – Ellie C in 5W

The judges were captivated by Ellie’s entry. They could feel the suspense building throughout the story and were left wanting more at the end!

Celebrating Our Young Musicians – Week 8 (8th -12th September)

This term in Performing Arts, we have been exploring the wonderful world of music – learning about rhythm, pitch, and how music can be created and shared in many ways.

In Week 8 (next week), students who are learning an instrument will have the opportunity to showcase their skills during their weekly Performing Arts lesson. They may perform solo, in a duo, or as part of a group.

Students are welcome to bring their instruments to school on their performance day. Instruments can be kept safely in the Performing Arts room until their lesson. Piano students are welcome to use the school piano. If an instrument is too large to transport (such as a drum kit), students are welcome to send in a video performance instead.

To keep the music alive and flowing, we will also be holding lunchtime jam sessions in the music room throughout Week 8. Students are encouraged to come along, collaborate, and enjoy making music together.

We can’t wait to hear the amazing talent and creativity our students have to share!

Volunteering at BPS

Beaumaris Primary School highly values our community and the support we receive from parents and carers in many different aspects of school life. We welcome the opportunity for parents and carers to volunteer within our school across a range of different school-based activities.

In previous years, we have held information sessions to provide volunteers with the required information in order to volunteer. This year, we have created a digital Volunteer Handbook and an online induction process to ensure that the information is accessible to parents/carers at a time that suits them.

If you would like to volunteer at Beaumaris Primary School, the process will now be:

  • Read the below BPS Volunteer Handbook, which includes the below policies and documents:
    • BPS Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy
    • BPS Child Safety Code of Conduct Policy
    • BPS Child Safety Responding and Reporting Policy
    • BPS Volunteers Policy
    • BPS Volunteer Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Induction Handbook.

  • Complete this online form, which includes both the Volunteer OHS Induction Checklist and the Volunteering at Beaumaris Primary School Questionnaire (https://forms.office.com/r/X1JfFrAPsa).

  • Email a scanned copy or provide in person for photocopying a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) card to the office staff.

The above process will need to be completed prior to volunteering at Beaumaris Primary School. This process can be completed at any stage throughout the year, at a time that suits you.

We thank you for your interest in volunteering and supporting our students, staff and school community.
