We are already well into Term 3, and it has been wonderful to watch our secondary students engage in excursions and participate in meaningful learning experiences.
This term’s Student Support Group meetings have now been completed, and I hope you had the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, discuss their goals, and collaborate on strategies to support their progress. If you were unable to attend and would still like to arrange a meeting, please contact your child’s teacher to discuss further.
Our students have been busy with a range of activities both inside and outside the classroom. Recently, they attended an excursion with the Education Community Officer from Metro Trains, who guided them through the train station, explained key travel information, and accompanied them on a trip from Broadmeadows Station to Flinders Street. This excursion gave students valuable skills around travelling safely and independently on public transport.
Students from Room 22 also enjoyed a local excursion to Broadmeadows Shopping Centre. They put their maths skills into action by budgeting and working through shopping lists, linking directly to this term’s mathematics focus on money. This real-life experience gave them the chance to apply classroom learning in a practical and engaging way.
Our Hands on Learning Build Program continues to be an exciting part of the curriculum. Students have been learning how to use tools safely and are working on mini projects that encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity. These projects have been a great way for students to build confidence and take pride in their work.
Meanwhile, our Hands on Learning Café group have been working hard behind the scenes preparing to serve food for the school canteen next term. They have been practicing their cooking, organising orders, and learning about food safety. Keep an eye out for the canteen order forms in Term 4. The students can’t wait to share their efforts with you!
We are very proud of the progress our students are making this term and look forward to the rest of the exciting learning opportunities still to come.
Senior Secondary Sub School-Sean Procko
It has been a busy and exciting term for the Senior Sub-School We would like to welcome Thuy and Vanessa to the Senior School team.
Students have been exploring a wide range of post-school pathways through excursions to Kangan TAFE and William Angliss TAFE, where they gained valuable insights into vocational opportunities. They also enjoyed taster days at Catalyst, gaining hands-on experience working at Woolworths, and visited Onemda to explore community and workplace programs. Additionally, some students completed work experience at Brite Industries, further building their workplace confidence and skills.
Our Coffee Cart continues to run every Wednesday, providing students with an authentic opportunity to develop customer service and coffee-making skills. A huge thank you to Karen, Kim, and Vicki for their ongoing guidance and support in fostering student independence through this initiative.
This term has also seen students participate in Morrisby testing and interview practice, helping them understand their job profiles and refine their interview skills in a formal setting. The Post-School Options Expo was another highlight – special thanks to Karen for her hard work in organising such an informative event.
A reminder, Graduate Camp is 8-10 October at Blackwood Outdoor Camp. Thank you to everyone who has completed their documents. Please forward them asap.
Looking ahead, our VPC students are gearing up for a sausage sizzle and garage sale fundraiser to support their end-of-year trip. Thank you to all staff for your teamwork and dedication in making these opportunities possible for our students.
ROOM 22
In Semester 2, the students of Room 22 have continued to participate in a variety of engaging subjects, including Numeracy, Literacy, Science, Personal and Social Capabilities (PSC), Health and Physical Education, Art, and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) program. This term, students have also had the exciting opportunity to take part in the Hands-On Learning Café with Helen Capuano, our talented VET Hospitality Coordinator and Teacher. Through this program, students are gaining valuable experience in hospitality - learning to prepare food for the Canteen program.
Room 22 along with Room 26 have continued to participate in inter-school sports. They kicked things off with tenpin bowling at Oz Tenpin Bowling in Epping, where many students truly impressed us with their skills, accuracy, and team spirit – we have our own rising bowling stars! Next week, the sporting journey continues as students take to the courts at the Broadmeadows Basketball Association, ready to dribble, shoot, and score!
Room 22 has also embarked on a number of exciting excursions that have expanded their learning beyond the classroom. From striking down pins at Wyncity Bowling in Keon Park to exploring wildlife at Werribee Zoo, students have engaged in hands-on, memorable experiences. A visit to Parliament House gave them a firsthand look into how our state government operates, while their trip to Broadmeadows Central provided a practical setting to build life skills like budgeting for a meal, navigation, and social interaction.
As part of their growth in independence, students have been learning to confidently navigate Melbourne’s public transport system. Whether it is hopping on a train or catching a bus, they have risen to the challenge with enthusiasm and maturity. Looking ahead, students are eagerly preparing for upcoming excursions to the State Library of Victoria and more visits to Broadmeadows Central.
Room 22 is making the most of every opportunity this semester, developing skills that will serve them well both in and beyond the classroom.
