SCIENCE WEEK

DAY ONE

Science Week kicked off with KSC Staff having a blast at a science themed morning tea on Monday, complete with fun costumes and creative outfits inspired by all thing's science!

From lab coats to solar systems, weather to animals and molecule-inspired accessories, the creativity was out of this world!

The event brought a fun and engaging recess break, sparking conversations about science-y things while enjoying delicious treats

DAY TWO

YEAR 8 VIST TO A ROBOTIC DAIRY

Tuesday, our Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to visit a robotic dairy, gaining valuable insight into the role of technology in modern agriculture.  This experience will help bring real  world agricultural learning into our classrooms.

A big thank you to Amy and her team from Agri-tech Education and Innovation and CQ University Australia for organising the visit, and sincere thanks to farmers Ben Vagg and Damien Murphy for their warm hospitality and generosity in sharing their knowledge.  It was fascinating to see first hand how advancements in data collection and computerisation are transforming dairying and enhancing farming practices.

LIKE MINDS CLASS VISIT TO GTAC

The Like Minds Class participated in a Science Week activity at GTAC today involving the hidden world of the human microbiome through a hands-on scientific discovery.

Students explored how gut microbes can influence our health and behaviour in a laboratory investigation and how to apply scientific reasoning and teamwork to solve a series of biological puzzles in an exciting “escape room” challenge.

A great experience using tools and techniques which are sophisticated and would not normally encounter at a secondary college.

DAY THREE

One of the highlights of Science Week at KSC is sharing the excitement with the Grade 1 & 2 students from Korumburra Primary School.

All the Year 9 students created some mini science lessons to share with our little neighbours, travelled to KPS and delivered some scientific ideas. We had great fun in the process and the excited looks on their faces and the audible squeals said it all.

We love to share science with our community.

DAY FOUR

Science Week blew our minds today!

Tim (an ex-student of KSC), from Profire Pyrotechnics gave the Year 10 students a demonstration of explosive Chemistry today on the top oval.

There was smoke, fireworks and explosions performed by a professional, who also gave us the story of how he became a pyrotechnic expert, and his experience with explosives and fireworks.

The Year 10’s (and staff) jumped, screamed and loved the variety of explosions and colours.

Thank you very much to Tim for generously spending time with us and sharing his love of explosive chemistry with us.

DAY FIVE

As part of KSC Science Week, we were thrilled to welcome Krystal, Rowena, and Rain from Burra Foods, who visited our Year 7 students for a fun and educational session.

Students learned about the importance of hand hygiene and how germs spread through the hands-on (and sparkly!) “Glitter germs” activity.

They also got moving with the shake-shake-shakin’ process of turning cream into butter — and took home their very own handmade butter pat to share with their families!

A big thank you to Krystal, Rowena and Rain for helping us wrap up Science Week with such a memorable experience. We loved having you at KSC!
