Book Week Fun

Last week, we celebrated Book Week with a vibrant dress-up day and exciting activities across all year levels. Students came dressed as their favourite book and movie characters and proudly participated in a whole-school parade. Throughout the day, they also took part in a variety of engaging book-themed rotational activities. As part of the celebrations, our students joined students from across Australia in a live virtual event with the author and illustrator of The Worst Week Ever series. This free session was facilitated by the State Library of New South Wales and gave students a wonderful insight into the creative process behind the hilarious books. In the classroom, we have just completed our unit on procedural writing, using the beloved book Wombat Stew as our inspiration. We are now diving into the hilarious and imaginative novel George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl.

Numeracy:

In Mathematics, students have been working to consolidate their understanding of the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Through a range of hands-on activities, problem-solving tasks, and games, they have been practising when and how to apply each operation in different contexts. This has helped to strengthen their number sense and build confidence in choosing the most efficient strategies to solve problems.

Science: Chemical Science - Changing Matter.

Exploring Physical Changes in Materials

In Science, students have been learning that materials can change physically without changing what they are made of. Through hands-on investigations, students observed a variety of materials and explored how physical changes—such as folding, bending, or stretching—can affect their shape or appearance. For example, students examined how paper can be folded in different ways without altering its composition. They documented their observations using labelled drawings and organised their findings in tables, allowing them to compare and categorise the physical changes they observed. It was a great opportunity for students to build their observation and recording skills while deepening their understanding of material properties.

Athletics Day:

What a fantastic day we had at the Westernport Little Athletics Track! All students participated with enthusiasm and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day. A big thank you to Mr E for all the hard work and organisation that went into making this event such a success.
