Digi Tech
This term in Digital Technologies, students from Prep through to Year Six have been developing their programming and problem-solving skills through hands-on coding activities.
Prep – Year Two Our youngest learners have been exploring ScratchJr, a visual coding platform designed for early years. Through drag-and-drop blocks, students have been learning the fundamentals of programming such as sequencing instructions, using loops for repetition, and designing simple animations and interactive stories. They have also been practising how to debug (fix) their code when something doesn’t work as expected. These activities are helping students build confidence in thinking logically and creatively while understanding how digital systems follow precise instructions.
Years Four – Six Students in the upper years have been working with Scratch, which allows for more complex coding projects. They have been extending their skills by learning how to use variables to track scores and lives, apply conditional statements (if/then rules), and combine multiple scripts to control different characters (sprites). A major focus has been on designing and programming their own simple video games, including classics such as Pong and scrolling platform games. These projects have challenged students to think critically about game mechanics, user interaction, and creative design, while also reinforcing resilience as they test, refine, and improve their programs.
Across all year levels, students are not only developing technical coding skills but also strengthening their creativity, logical reasoning, and collaboration—skills that are essential in today’s digital world.

Visual Arts
In Visual Arts this term, students have continued to explore the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Over the past weeks, students have put a huge amount of effort into their Visual Arts projects, and the results are simply outstanding. Foundation and Year 1 students designed their own personal symbols and combined them into bright, patterned paintings after learning about the work of Merindah Gunya. In Years 2/3, students explored colour and pattern through landscapes inspired by Bronwyn Bancroft, showing real skill in creating depth within their designs. Our senior students took on the challenge of blending bold colours and detailed line work to create striking Australian bird artworks, drawing inspiration from Melanie Hava and Grotti Lotti. The creativity, focus, and pride students showed in their work has led to a collection of artworks that are truly amazing to see.
August Art Attack
We are excited to announce that a selection of student artworks will be on display at the upcoming August Art Attack exhibition, hosted by the Crib Point Community House. With so many incredible artworks created this term, it was a very difficult task to choose which ones would be included. Congratulations to the following students whose pieces have been selected to represent Bittern Primary School:
Name | Art Work Title |
Chloe | Kelly |
Lily V. | Beach Masterpiece |
Amelia | Beach Catastrophe |
Milla | Bird Painting |
Casey | Kookaburra |
Mae | Me |
Dakota | Untitled |
Kayden V. | Spots |
Damon | Birdy in the Leaf |
Rose E. | Wildlife |
While not every artwork could be chosen, we are so proud of the effort, creativity, and persistence shown by all students. If your child feels a little disappointed about not being selected, it’s a great opportunity to talk together about resilience—celebrating their hard work, learning from the experience, and remembering that every project is a step towards growing as an artist. Most importantly, we encourage all students to keep creating and sharing their ideas with pride.
This community exhibition is a wonderful chance to celebrate our talented young artists and share their creativity with a wider audience. We look forward to seeing many families come along to enjoy the event!
