Library News

Opening hours are 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday on school days.

‘The best thing is simply that our school library is a warm inviting safe space that embraces learners of all ages – school or community based – and offers a way to further the learning journey through access to quality resources that are not just the books and digital offerings but the people in charge of the space.’

Book Week 2025 – Book An Adventure

Library Trivia Quiz

The Annual Library Trivia Quiz, held over two days on Tuesday and Wednesday, attracted a large lunchtime crowd with fifteen tables competing for prizes and the chance to have their team name engraved on the Perpetual Cup. Participants learnt interesting general knowledge facts about how peanuts were used as an ingredient in dynamite and that the extinct Dodo bird was native to the Island of Mauritius.

The winning tables were:

  • in first place with 66 points – To Be (or not to be) Decided

in second place with 63.5 points – Founding Fathers

Teams Beasters of Doom, ChezCult, Krill and Table 10 all had a score of 60+ points, making it a very close competition. Thank you to everyone who participated and a big thank you to our Quizmaster Mr Thomas Lane who kept everyone entertained by sharing fascinating insights into each promt. I would also like to thank our two student judges Ella and Kiera who did a fantastic job tallying up the team scores. Library staff hope that everyone had as much fun participating as library staff did in planning this event.

Student Book Swap

Students were encouraged to bring along pre-loved book from home to swap with another student. A student recommendation is always a good place to start reading and so it is hoped these students will have found their next favourite read.

Student Book Fair

QBD visited the library on Friday with the latest age-appropriate fictional titles, transforming the library into a makeshift bookshop with tables showcasing the colourful covers of new books. At this event, students were invited to select a new book or two for the library to purchase and be the first to borrow it. Students who selected an item(s), will have their name featured on a commemorative plate on the inside cover of their chosen titles(s).

The library was able to purchase 115 new books for the library, adding to the already diverse and current collection. From a library perspective, it is really important to have a collection that is student driven as it reflects their individual reading interests, promotes collaboration, increases literacy engagement and usage of the library. The library team are currently cataloguing, covering and issuing, these books to students.

Book Club

The Song of Achillies and Gideon the Ninth are the titles selected by book club students for term three. Copies are available at the library desk for students to borrow. The next Book Club will be held in week seven on Thursday 11 September.

Students are welcome to drop by the library or email library@mgsc.vic.edu.au at any time with details of their name and class to join.
