Science Week

Decoding the Universe

To begin Science Week, we had the team from Mad About Science come to our school and work with Year 7 and 8 students on the theme of Science week this year - Decoding the Universe - they explored the awesome world of innovation and technology through a range of activities.

It then continued strong with slime-making on Tuesday in the Science labs. Students from all year levels took part in creating their own slime with their friends while also practicing important lab regulations, and even got the chance to show off their Bunsen burner skills!

Followed up on Wednesday, the STEAM team challenged a school-wide scavenger hunt of women in STEM, who were hidden in all accessible areas of our school. The hunt was fast, with a Year 8 group taking the win of 82 cards collected within the same day, earning their prize of choice.

Thursday, students took the opportunity to sit back and relax in the viewing room, accompanied by their friends and snacks, to watch the inspiring film, “Hidden Figures”.

To wrap up the week, Friday was full of friendly competition as Kahoots, Blookets, and Teacher vs. Student trivia took place in the STEAM centre. This time, (once again,) the students came out on top, proving that tables can be turned when it comes to trivia! It was amazing to see many teachers and students participate, bringing their own areas of knowledge to the table.

Additionally, congratulations go to 8A for winning the Education Perfect Science Week competition, with 7A close behind. 8A will be rewarded with a pizza lunch to celebrate their efforts, amazing work!

Science Week was a great success, bringing together students and teachers to celebrate achievement, inclusivity, creativity, and most of all, empowerment in not just STEAM, but here at MGSC! :)
