Student Wellbeing

Advocating Respectful Relationships

The Wellbeing Team has had a busy and positive time with a number of initiatives taking place to support our students’ social, emotional, and community connections.

On Tuesday 27 August, our school acknowledged Wear It Purple Day in partnership with the Kingston Youth Services Youth Work Team. The day was supported by lunchtime activities and collaboration with both the SRC and the Respectful Relationships Team. This event provided a valuable opportunity for students to celebrate diversity, inclusivity, and respect within our school community.

This term, selected students from Years 7 and 8 have also continued to participate in the Young Women in Leadership Program. Through this program, students have been supported to build resilience, strengthen social connections, and develop leadership skills. Participants were also gifted wellbeing showbags containing mindfulness colouring, fidgets, and self-care diaries to encourage healthy routines at home and lots of other goodies, keep an eye out for them coming home. We extend our thanks to the Hawthorn Football Club MY FRIENDS Program and Kingston Youth Services for their generosity and ongoing support of our students.

Looking ahead, our Wellbeing Mental Health Practitioner will continue to provide opportunities for students in Years 9 and 10 to connect during a weekly Friday lunchtime drop-in space in Room 5. This program is designed to encourage creativity, build positive peer relationships, promote inclusivity, and support student wellbeing in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

In addition to school-based programs, we are pleased to advise that a visiting psychologist continues to be available onsite at no cost to families. This service provides students with the opportunity to access professional support directly at school in a familiar and supportive setting. Families can refer direct via the website https://www.kingstonyouth.org.au/support/mental-health

Families may also find it helpful to explore Kingston Youth Services, which provide a wide range of support and programs for young people in the community. More information can be found at: Kingston Youth Services.

Year 7 and 8 students can pop by the JLC on Mondays to see Fiona, from Wellbeing and work on building social connections, navigate social situations and build on their connection to school.

We look forward to seeing many of our students engage with these activities and thank families for their continued support of wellbeing initiatives across the school.

WHISE is proud to launch this free, practical pilot program designed specifically for parents and caregivers of students in Years 7 and 8.
