Principal's Message

Over the past fortnight, our college community has once again demonstrated the strength, creativity, and inclusivity that define Mentone Girls’ Secondary College.

One of the true highlights was our outstanding participation in the 2025 Aerobics and Dance Nationals in Hobart. With 76 students and eight dedicated coaches, MGSC made its mark in the most successful nationals in our history—bringing home 11 medals, including three gold. Beyond the medals, I was most proud of the sportsmanship displayed by our students, who cheered not only for our own competitors but also for students from other schools. A special acknowledgement goes to Ruby Righetti, who was selected to read the Athletes’ pledge on behalf of all competitors—an honour that reflects the leadership qualities we value so highly.

Book Week was a celebration of imagination, creativity, and community. From the staff morning tea and book borrow, to trivia quizzes, swaps, and student-led activities, it was wonderful to see so many students and staff engaging with literature in fun and memorable ways. Our library continues to thrive as a hub of curiosity and learning, and Book Week reminded us how stories connect us all.

Congratulations to Cassie Servadei (Year 9), who represented Victoria at the National Cross Country Championships in Ballarat and won a bronze medal in the U16 4 kilometre event. Cassie also competed in a team relay with Year 8 student Amy Joy Duncan, representing MGSC and the state with pride. Their achievements speak to the dedication and resilience our students bring to every field of endeavour.

Our music program continues to showcase the exceptional talent of our students. The Year 8 Band performed beautifully at the VSMF, with more ensembles preparing for upcoming performances, including the Symphonic Band on 4 September and the much-anticipated Spring Concert on Tuesday 2 September at Kingston Arts Centre. These events remind us of the power of music to bring joy, creativity, and connection to our community.

This week, MGSC will celebrate Wear It Purple Day, an important event that reaffirms our commitment to inclusivity, safety, and visibility for our rainbow young people. I look forward to seeing our community come together in purple to show solidarity and support, making this day meaningful and empowering for all.

Applications for 2026 Student Leadership positions have now opened, with Year 12 Executive roles and Year 10 Peer Support leading the way. I encourage every student to consider how they can contribute to the life of our college. Leadership at MGSC is about stepping forward with courage, embracing challenges, and supporting others—qualities we see demonstrated daily in classrooms, on stage, in sport, and across all aspects of school life.

These weeks have been a testament to what happens when students, staff, and families work together in a spirit of encouragement and celebration. Whether it is through academic pursuits, creative expression, or sporting excellence, MGSC continues to empower every girl from everywhere to thrive.

Best wishes
