DEBATING

Congratulations to the Year 5 and Year 6 students that proudly represented St Aidan’s in the Debating Competition against St Bernard’s Botany last week. The topic of debate was - “Single use plastic should be banned”

The students learnt how to structure arguments (method), develop a good understanding of general knowledge and current affairs (matter) and learnt skills on how to speak in front of an audience (manner).

CHESS SEMI FINALS

On Monday five of our students represented St Aidan’s at the Semi-Finals Chess Tournament at Marist College, Kogarah. The hall was filled with the quiet clicking of the chess clocks. The student’s skills were tested and challenged as they played a new opponent for a total of seven rounds. Each student had a maximum of 15 minutes to verse their opponent per round. All the students did exceptionally well in this game of strategy and problem solving.

A special congratulations to:

  • Lawrence who ranked 14 out of 135 students.

  • Ethan who ranked 10 out of 135 students and was awarded a silver medal for having the 2nd top score amongst the 9 year old age group.

YEAR 6 KILDARE COURT VISIT

As part of our social justice outreach program our Year 6 students visited the residents at Kildare Court and had a fun afternoon playing a range of card games and board games such as Snakes and Ladders, Checkers, Uno and Go Fish. This experience provided students an opportunity to live out the Brigidine Charism of Charity, Compassion and Respect. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the visit from our students as we left the residents smiling from ear to ear.
