The Wonderful World of Worms!

Our garden focus this fortnight is all about worms! Students are learning how to create and care for a worm farm, how to keep our wriggly friends healthy, and how to collect and use their castings to make nutrient-rich worm tea. They’re discovering how worms play a vital role in helping our plants grow strong and healthy by enriching the soil and reducing waste.

The scraps from our kitchen sessions and students' lunchboxes are being put to good use—feeding our compost, worms, and even our chickens. It’s all part of our school-wide mission to reduce waste and embrace the idea of waste not, want not!

In the kitchen, students have been busy harvesting our homegrown carrots and turning them into delicious carrot croquettes, served with a creamy ricotta dip. They’ve also been learning to make traditional Cornish pasties (ask your child why they were so popular with miners!) and ending the session with a crowd favourite—golden syrup dumplings.

It’s been a rich and flavourful fortnight, full of learning, sustainability, and shared experiences from garden to plate!
