Principal's Message

Wakakirri

Wowee, what a night! We took 57 very excited year 3-6 children to the Frankston Arts Centre for their Wakakirri performance. To say the Billanook team rocked it is an understatement. They danced their hearts out and looked fantastic in their costumes. Their attitude and behaviour during the day was noted by the organisers and other schools.

Our team was by far the youngest team (the other 5 schools only took year 5/6 students). We have sowed the seed for future competitions. We learnt so much about the process and what’s involved on the competition day which we’ll be able to use next time.

A big thankyou to all our wonderful Wakakirri students. It was a pleasure helping out on the day with such positive and engaged children.

Also a big thankyou to Peter Humphreys for all his time in choreographing the dance and rehearsing with the team.

Thanks to Jen Meaby, Michelle Rees, Liz Frith, Michelle Pezzimenti, Jo Zimmerman and Jade Cosmas for helping on the bus and throughout the day.

Thanks also to Bec Kendall for helping with make up and to all the other families who came along and supported our team.

Book Week Dress Up Day and Bedtime Stories Evening

A final reminder that we will be holding our annual book character dress up day to celebrate our love of reading and Book Week on Monday 18 August.  Everyone is invited to dress up as their favourite book or character. We will be holding a special assembly to show off the dress ups at 9:10 am in the Gym. This will be in place of our normal 2:30pm assembly.

We will continue to celebrate book week and reading into the evening as we run our Bedtime Stories evening from 6 – 7pm on Tuesday 19 March. We encourage all families to come to school in their pyjamas and dressing gowns and hear their bedtime story read by teachers from across the school.

There will be 4 classrooms setup and families are invited to move around the school and hear a story being read in each room.

Kitchen Garden decking and pergola works beginning – Wednesday 20 August

We are very excited to announce that the new outdoor classroom space for kitchen garden will begin next Wednesday 20 August. Our long awaited decking and pergola should take a couple of weeks to construct and will be ready for classes to use in perfect time for the better weather. The Mt Evelyn Community Bank have sponsored this project and will be in attendance next Wednesday to turn the first sod.

Regards,

Michael Puddy
