Year 5/6W Camp Highlights – Phillip Island Adventure!
From 4th to 6th August, fifty excited Year 5/6 students set off to CYC The Island in Phillip Island for three days packed with adventure, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.
After a quick stop in San Remo for morning tea, students arrived at camp ready to tackle their first activities. From the thrill of the Giant Swing and the challenge of abseiling, to racing pedal carts, testing aim in archery, scaling the Pinnacle rock wall, and cooking delicious damper over the fire, there was something for everyone.
Winston enjoyed starting camp with the low ropes course, where “Mr Wilson gave us a challenge to go all the way around without touching the floor!” He also loved making damper and said, “When you finished you could eat it and put jam on it, which was really yummy.”
Ivy-Snow summed it up perfectly: “Grade 5/6 camp was amazing and super fun and something that was not to be missed!” She loved the Penguin Parade and shared that “some students were even laughing at the penguins and enjoying the moment in ways that others might not have thought of.”
Nika and Madison had a blast racing the pedal carts — “There was a speed camera where you could see how fast you went. We did races and relays!” They also described the Giant Swing as “15 metres tall — everyone had a go and enjoyed it!”
Evenings were just as special. On the first night, everyone rugged up for the Penguin Parade, watching the little penguins waddle up the beach to their burrows. On the second night, laughter and singing filled the hall during Music Bingo, with students and teachers competing together.
A sunny afternoon at the beach on Day Two saw students playing games, exploring rockpools, and enjoying the ocean breeze. Teachers joined in the fun too — Mrs Kristlyn even went upside down on the Flying Fox!
It was three days of courage, laughter, and new friendships. A big thank you to the staff and the fantastic team at CYC The Island for helping make this camp an experience our students will never forget.
Responsible Pet Ownership Program
On Tuesday 12th August 2025, our Foundation learners participated in the Responsible Pet Ownership incursion at school. This valuable program focuses on teaching children about dog safety and how to protect themselves in different situations.
Through engaging songs, dances, and interactive actions, our Foundation students explored safe ways to behave around dogs. They learned to recognise the physical signs dogs show when they are scared, nervous, or excited, and discussed what to do and say when meeting a dog in public. The program provided a meaningful and memorable learning experience, fostering both a safe and positive relationship between children and animals.
Science Week 2025 – Decoding the Universe
This week, Maramba Primary School was excited to take part in National Science Week with the theme “Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language.”
Through the week students completed a range of activities in their classroom and in STEAM.
Students explored:
Parts of a plant
Parts of a seed
Features of different animals
Animal adaptations
How things move
Light and colours
Planets and the Solar System
Circuits
Producers, consumers and decomposers and thier role within the food chain
There was also two special activities across the school:
Planting Seeds
Science Week started early for our Foundation to Year 2 students with a special visit from Bunnings on Thursday, August 7th. As part of an exciting hands-on activity, students had the opportunity to plant a variety of seeds in our school garden; including peas, corn, beans, and more. During the session, students also learned about the importance of caring for their plants to help them grow. They discovered how water, sunlight, and even a bit of shade all play a key role in healthy plant development. It was a fun and engaging experience for everyone, and our young gardeners are eagerly looking forward to watching their plants grow over the coming weeks.
Dome Incursion
On Thurday August 14th the students in Years 2-6 particpated in a Science Discovery Dome Incursion.
A review of the incursion from Jay in Year 5
In our school incursion that we did today we learnt about space! Today we have learnt about how the earth was created and why there is so much iron on it.
We have learnt about the past of some planets, including Mars, Earth, and Saturn!
We learnt about why Saturn has a ring around it.
We learnt that you can jump off cliffs on Neptune because of how little gravity there is.
We also learnt about the moon going closer to the sun everyday!
Don’t forget to keep a look out for the planets tonight and in the morning!
