It was wonderful to hear the announcement last week of our new Pope - Pope Leo XIV. Cardinal Robert Prevost became the first Pope from the Augustinian order, and the first Pope from the United States of America, though his chosen name of 'Leo' continues another long tradition, being the fourth most common name taken for a Pope.
A Prayer for Pope Leo XIV
Heavenly Father,
You have raised Your servant, Pope Leo XIV, as the successor of Saint Peter.
Pour out Your abundant blessings upon him.
Through him, guide with hope Your pilgrim Church along the path to Heaven.
Grant him wisdom to discern Your will,
Courage to fulfill it,
And charity to shepherd Your people with the Heart of Christ.
May he be a faithful successor to Saint Peter,
A humble servant of Your Word,
And a fearless herald of Your Divine Mercy and Truth.
Strengthen him with the grace of the Holy Spirit,
That he may lead our Church in unity, holiness, and fidelity.
We ask these prayers through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Last week, our Diocese celebrated the episcopal ordination of our 11th Bishop of Armidale, Bishop Peter Murphy. Schools and staff celebrated the ordination both in person and via the live stream link.
The solemn and historic liturgy was attended by 29 bishops and 60 diocesan and visiting clergy, including principal consecrator Sydney Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP and co-consecrators Bishop Mark Edwards of Wagga Wagga and our former Bishop of Armidale, Bishop Michael Kennedy.
We welcome Bishop Murphy to our diocese.
This year, we will attend the Diocesan Catholic Schools Week Mass at St Mary and Joseph's Catholic Cathedral in Armidale. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to experience Mass being celebrated in a Cathedral and to hear from our new Bishop Murphy.
The Diocesan Catholic Schools Week Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 28th. It will commence at 11am in St Mary and Joseph's Catholic Cathedral and will be followed by a light lunch in the Armidale Catholic Schools Office grounds. The children will need to pack recess and a water bottle for the bus trip, and their school hat. Armidale Catholic Schools will provide a light lunch for each child attending. If you would like to pack an alternative lunch for your child, please feel free to do so.
