Prep News

Dear Families,

We’ve had another exciting and productive week in Prep! Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been learning and some important reminders for the coming days.

LITERACY

This week, we were thrilled to meet Zoe the Zebra and Queenie the Quail! The children loved exploring the sounds that Z and Q make, and we learnt that in regular spelling, Q and U always stick together and had a wedding to make sure they remember this, photos to come! We are also getting into a great routine with our Literacy Groups, where students engage in a range of activities that support reading, writing, and phonics skills.

MATHEMATICS

In Maths, we have begun learning about subtraction within 10. The children are developing strategies such as counting back and using concrete materials like counters and blocks to help solve subtraction problems. It’s been great to see their confidence grow as they explore different ways to find the difference between numbers.

INQUIRY

Our Inquiry unit continues to focus on communities and the people who help us. We are looking forward to welcoming the firefighters back for a second visit, this time with their fire truck! This will help us build a deeper understanding of the important role they play in keeping us safe. A ‘Safe Meeting Place’ worksheet has been sent home for you to complete with your child. This is a valuable opportunity to talk about what to do and where to go in case of a fire emergency.

REMINDERS

Greenlink Walking Excursion – Wednesday 21st May

We are excited for our local walking excursion to Greenlink next Wednesday. There is no payment required, but consent is essential as we are leaving the school grounds. We will be departing at 10:00am. If your child arrives after this time but before 12:00pm, please check with the office as you may need to drop your child off directly at Greenlink.

Thank you for your continued support!

Warm regards,

The Prep Team
