Virtual Design

Year level: 5

Year 5 Virtual Design this term promises a rich and engaging experience. It will begin with an in-depth dive into the world of fashion design. Students will investigate the key principles and techniques used by designers to elevate the visual impact and craftsmanship of garments, both in everyday streetwear and high-fashion runway contexts. This exploration will lead into a hands-on project where students will design a series of outfits for the Met Gala, inspired by the theme ‘The Asian Century’. The focus will then shift to interior design come the second half of the term. Students will examine not only individual furniture pieces but also the broader aesthetic and functional composition of interior spaces. They also will explore influential 20th and 21st-century design movements such as Art Nouveau, Modernism, Art Deco and the Bauhaus school and the unique characteristics that make up each movement.

Year level: 6

In Year 6 Virtual Design, students will dissect how a brand’s identity is cultivated and formed and what companies must consider when changing their ‘brand image’ to reach a new customer base. Accompanying this will also be an investigation as to the techniques used in different advertisements. This will culminate in the learners organising the rebrand of a fictional company, considering all aspects of a brand, such as the logo, the colour palette, the imagery and, of course, the products themselves, all while producing an advertisement to showcase this rebrand to the world. The second half of the term is slated to be an eagerly awaited feature for many students, for it offers the opportunity for students to learn more about the principles and elements of fashion design and the practical ways one can employ those principles in their own outfits. To finish off the semester, learners will act as style consultants for different teachers acting, interviewing them and designing a variety of outfits for them.
