Principal Update

     Thursday 24 April

Welcome to Term 2.

We hope everyone managed to enjoy some quality time together with family and friends over Easter and the term break.  We are looking forward to another exciting term of learning and enjoyment for our students with many things bubbling away under the surface that will have to be seen to be believed!

Please check Compass for upcoming events and information.

Whole School Excursion – Friday 9 May

As part of our integrated learning program this term, students will be attending an excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium. This experience will directly support our inquiry into ocean environments and sustainability, explored across Visual Arts, STEM, and classroom learning.

Throughout the term, students will investigate key topics including:

  • Marine ecosystems and animal life
  • The impact of ocean plastics and global warming
  • Human influence on marine environments
  • Sustainable practices and environmental responsibility

The visit to the aquarium will provide students with a rich, real-world context to deepen their understanding of these important global issues. Students will engage with interactive exhibits, observe marine life up close, and participate in sustainability-focused learning experiences. The knowledge and insights gained during the excursion will inform ongoing class projects and discussions, ultimately contributing to our Celebration of Learning Open Night at the end of the term on Wednesday 3 July.

We believe this excursion is a valuable educational opportunity that supports curriculum goals while encouraging environmental awareness and stewardship.

Lest We Forget

Yesterday we had the opportunity to acknowledge ANZAC day and explore its meaning.  Our School Captains and Year 5 students represented our school community at the 26th ANZAC Ceremony for Schools at the 1000 steps.  It’s a nice service which provides a great background to our involvement at Kokoda during the second world war, listen to stories, songs and poems.

Thank you again to Denny’s mother, Kiandra Jarrett, who makes the wreath for us to present.

Feedback for School Council

At the end of last term families had the opportunity to provide some feedback whilst the students enjoyed some popcorn, fairy floss, cordial and pizza.

For those families that were unable to attend please add your thoughts via this google form for you to have the chance to contribute.

Questions we are seeking feedback on are:

  • If you had a magic wand, what is one thing you would change about our school?
  • What is something you think should not change about our school?
  • What would you say makes our school special?
  • What should we start doing?

Easter – Raffle, Bonnet Parade and donations – thank you

We had our Easter bonnet parade in the greenspace after lunch yesterday where students could showcase the creations made in Visual Arts.  We had a free dress day with a gold coin donation that we will give to the Monash Children’s Hospital this year.

The raffle always brings eggcitement.  Thanks to the families that donated so we can provide some great prizes.  A special acknowledgement to Sarah Wicking for organising the prizes for the students and creating the hampers with the support of Mila and Fynn too.  Our School Captains enjoyed spinning the virtual wheel to find the winners – thanks to Kate in the office for organising this

School/community involvement

As you know we are always wanting to attract new enrolments and welcome new families to the MCPS community. Our free Messy Playgroup for children aged 1 - 5 years (all children are welcome, but activities will focus on this age group) is an opportunity for families to come and enjoy a chat, while the messy activities are taken care of by Kate W, Jacinta and Amanda.

This Playgroup will run every Thursday of the school term, from 9:30 - 10:30, in the school hall

Education Week open times to see the school in action

Education Week is being acknowledged from Monday 19 May to Friday 23 May.

This year we are welcoming all our families to come along to see our classes and specialists in action at the following times.   It will also be a chance for any new families wanting to come for a school tour as well.

  • Wednesday 21 May 9am – 10:30am
  • Thursday 22 May 2:40pm – 3:30pm

Foundation 2026 Enrolment and Term 2 School Tours

This term schools across the state begin the enrolment process for Foundation in 2026. New and existing families are invited to tour the school by making an appointment.

Year 6- Year 7 for 2026

Families of Year 6 students have received their application forms for Year 7 placement for 2026.  These are due by Friday 9 May.  Please contact Daniel, Sonya or Kate in the office if you have any queries.

Thank you

Our chickens have also enjoyed an extended term break spending time with the Erskine family.  Thanks so much for looking after them for us, it is greatly appreciated.

Our drinking taps outside the BER have been cleaned out and had pipes replaced as we had some blockages with sand and mulch. Thanks to Ben and Katrina Shannon for doing this.

There will be no school tomorrow as it is ANZAC Day.  We will see everyone again on Monday.

Regards,

Dale
