Gareth Hose & Kate Gardner, Year 8 Coordinators
Welcome back to all Year 8 students! We hope you all had a wonderful Easter and two weeks break and are now feeling refreshed and ready to smash out a long 11 week term!
Assembly Celebration
On our first day back we held our first Assembly for term 2. This was a great opportunity to celebrate the fantastic efforts and achievements of some of our Yr 8 students. Congratulations to the following students who received a $5 canteen voucher for receiving the most amount of student values and consistent school attendance at the end of term 1, Stevie Tucker, Hudson Fossey & Noah McCarthy
HAWK Award
A big congratulations to Jimmy Monaghan who was awarded our most recent ‘HAWK’ award. Jimmy receives this award for achieving 100% attendance, gaining numerous college values and consistently applying himself in classes since our last Yr 8 assembly.
Lockers
All Year 8 students are required to have a lock on their locker. Please make sure that if your child does not have a lock that you send one with them to school. Locks on lockers not only help to secure the protection of a student’s belongings, but also helps to stop loose work and others bits of paper from flying out of unlocked lockers on windy days which increases the amount of rubbish around the Year 8 lockers and the oval that is close by.
Uniform
Students are expected to wear the full Horsham College school uniform to school.
No puffer jackets allowed (other than HC one)
Pants and shorts need to be at an appropriate length and need to have HC on them.
Shoes must be all black!
No hoodies! Instead you may wear long sleeve tops underneath your HC polos. These must be either white or navy.
Socks are also to be either black, white or navy.
Electronic Devices/Phones
It is expected of each student that they have a fully charged electronic device to bring to every class as per the Horsham College BYOD program. If your child is having any issues with their electronic device, then they are welcome to visit our IT department at school. If you are having trouble accessing a device for your child, please reach out to the school for support.
A reminder to students that their phones are to be kept in their lockers during the school day. We have noticed an increase in students wearing/using earbuds to play music from their phones, which is impacting on their ability to follow classroom instruction. School policy is that if a student if found to have their phone on them and using it, then an afterschool detention will be issued.
Absent from School
If your child is away from school on any particular day, please ensure that they are keeping up to date with the work that they missed in their classes. Please encourage them to Direqt Message their teachers on SEQTA to ask what is required of them. If they miss out on completing an assessment task (CAT), they will need to arrange another time to complete this with their teacher.
