Alternate Programs

Dan Garner - Assistant Principal Alternate Programs

The term has started well and students are doing incredible things not only in schools but also in the community.  We have had a number of students out in the community completing work trials and work experience.

WORK EXPERIENCE AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

There are currently opportunities available for students who are looking to enter full-time employment.  Russell Brown (Headstart Coordinator) has been meeting with students in our Senior and Orange programs and connecting them with availabilities at different workplaces around town.  Exiting school to a full time job is a target for many of our students, and they are encouraged to speak with their teachers if they need any further support with this.

WELCOME BACK

A big welcome back to Ronnie Couch who is rejoining the team after being away for the birth of her beautiful daughter Mia.  Ronnie will be working with our Blue Group students on their literacy.

Absences

Regarding absences, if your child is unable to attend school for any reason, kindly inform their teacher. This allows us to maintain accurate attendance records and ensure that any missed days do not hinder your child's academic progress.

Transitions

Transition periods are underway for some students as they embark on new educational programs tailored to their individual journeys. Should any concerns or issues arise during this transition, we encourage you to communicate them with the relevant personnel. If you believe a different program would better suit your child's needs, please reach out to us.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to continue reaching out to program leaders if there is anything we can do to support you and your child.  This is often the toughest time of the year to get to school, and we are here to help however we can.

Seniors

Students in the Senior Class VCE VM & VPC are participating in print making art classes every second Wednesday. Sue Pavlovich from the main campus of Horsham College is teaching students to design images, prepare print making plates and print. The students have the privilege of using an old direct drive printing press where they learn about the skills and pressure required to create the perfect print. Students have been intently designing pictures, figures and illustrations that are meaningful to them and creating beautiful images. The class is grateful for Sue sharing her expertise and volunteering her time.

McKenzie Creek

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope everybody had a restful and relaxing break and are looking forward to getting stuck into another jam-packed term. This term is an 11-week term, and with the mornings getting colder, it is certainly much harder to get out of bed! We encourage the ‘Creekers’ to look after themselves by dressing appropriately for the weather (school jumpers, pants and jackets), and to ensure they are getting plenty of rest after school and on the weekends so that we can get through the term together!

Term 2 in Action

This term we will continue to reinforce the expectations from Term 1, as well as further dive into the English and Mathematics curriculum. The students will continue to have breakfast and a learning task before recess, before they split into their respective year levels for English and Maths in periods 3 and 4. The afternoons will continue to be at the Main Campus for electives.

Change of Season - Winter Uniform

In Terms 2 and 3, the students are encouraged to wear their school jumpers and jackets to keep warm. They are not required to wear hats, however, if they wish to wear a beanie, it needs to be navy blue (with no logos) in accordance with our school uniform policy. Please reach out to us if you need any assistance in ensuring your child has the correct uniform.
