2025 School Theme - Why Team, Why Team Westbreen

Dear Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the public holiday on ANZAC Day and had a chance to reflect on its significance.

ANZAC Service Held at Westbreen Primary School- Thursday 24th of April

Firstly, congratulations to our school student leaders - School Captains and House Captains: Ayana, Leon, Gordana, Khayle, Olive, Mahmoud, Meryem, Annie, Maddie, and Clementine - for leading our school in a special service on Thursday morning.

The student leaders delivered the ANZAC Day speech to honor the spirit of more than 1.5 million servicemen and servicewomen who have served our country in various conflicts, wars, and peacekeeping operations.

This day was also a time to recognise their sacrifice, bravery, and camaraderie.

During the service, each class captain laid a poppy on the wreath that was taken to the ANZAC ceremony at Rogers Reserve in Pascoe Vale on Friday 25th April.

The ceremony included:

- Ode of Remembrance

- The Last Post

- A one-minute silence

- The Rouse

Well done to all students for respecting the significance of ANZAC Day during this event. We owe a debt of gratitude to those who fought, endured, suffered, and died for their country in various conflicts over many decades.

Thank you to all the families who attended.

ANZAC Service Held at Rogers Reserve, Pascoe Vale, Friday 25th April

Westbreen Primary School was honoured to participate in the Pascoe Vale R.S.L. ANZAC Day Commemoration Ceremony at Rogers Reserve, Pascoe Vale Service on Friday 25th April.

We were immensely proud of the way our students represented Team Westbreen with respect and responsibility during this important occasion.

Thank you to all the students and families who were present.

After the initial introduction, the President of the RSL began the official proceedings. This was followed by the playing of the ode, the Last Post, a minute of silence, and the singing of the national anthems of Australia and New Zealand. It was then time to lay the wreaths. The President introduced Westbreen Primary and requested our student leaders to lay our wreath in front of the shrine. Thank you to Leon, Anaya, and Khayle for representing the school with pride on the day and for planting rosemary at the reserve.

Lest we forget.

2026 Enrolments

Enrolments for Foundation (Prep) 2026 are now open. Parents are invited to complete their child's enrolment at the school office. To do so, please fill out the school enrolment form and provide proof of your child's date of birth as well as their immunization record. Once the enrolment process is complete, new students will be added to the register for 2026 classes.

For planning purposes, we kindly ask that parents finalise enrolments by the end of this term. If you have any questions or need clarification regarding the enrolment process, please contact Ms. Kerry Parfett, our Community & Enrolment Facilitator, at Kerry.parfett@education.vic.gov.au.

Semester 1 2025 Reports

Staff members are currently preparing and unpacking data for the Semester 1 (Terms 1 and 2) Student Reports for 2025. These reports will be made available to parents and carers electronically on Xuno on Friday, June 26th. With the recent updates, Xuno now allows families to easily access digital copies of their child's reports. Please note that this year's reports will have a slightly different format.

Our goal is to provide insights into your child's progress in relation to the Victorian Curriculum. We will also offer opportunities to discuss this further during the Reporting to Families Day, focusing on how we can collaborate with you on the next steps in your child's learning.

An outline of the new report format will be detailed further in an upcoming newsletter.

As mentioned further in this weeks' newsletter, our school will be hosting the WPS Cross Country Event on Wednesday, April 30th. We are excited to see the students dressed in their house colors on the day, with each child having the opportunity to either run or walk the course.

Election BBQ- Saturday, May 3

I would like to thank all the volunteers for giving their time on Saturday, May 3rd, for the Election BBQ to support the school. Our school will serve as a voting site that day, and we encourage everyone to stop by for a sausage to support the school.

I look forward to seeing you at the BBQ!

Disco - Friday, May 9

The Disco is fast approaching, and we hope to have a bit of fun with a dance-off at assembly - there might even be a couple of special guests! To all students, please don’t hesitate to get involved, especially if you haven’t purchased a ticket yet; it will be a great event, reflecting the fun we had last year. A big thank you to the Parents and Friends Committee for all their hard work and dedication in organising such a significant event for the school. We appreciate the effort put into logistics and the involvement of local businesses. Also, thank you to Jill and Kerry for your assistance to the group.

Playgroup - every Thursday 9am to 10:30am

Lastly, I would like to remind our families about a fantastic opportunity. Our Playgroup has moved to Thursday mornings at 9:00am after drop-off in our Specialists Building. If you have a child aged 0-5 years, please join us! It’s a lot of fun for the children and a great way to make connections. Plus, we offer biscuits, tea, and coffee for the parents, along with games and activities for the children.

Wishing everyone a wonderful learning week during Week 2!

A reminder for our Year 6 students to return their Year 6-7 transition forms as soon as possible. These were handed out in Week 1 and are due back 9 May 2025.
