Prefects' Update

Lily Bruce and Lincoln Robinson

Dear Kinross Wolaroi Families,

We have had a fantastic start to the term, and it’s been wonderful to see everyone settle back into boarding life so smoothly. After a well-deserved break, it didn’t take long for the boarding houses to come alive with laughter, chatter and plenty of activities. There’s a real sense of energy and enthusiasm around the place, maybe that’s because the excitement of boarding week is just around the corner.

To help kick things off, we had an action packed first weekend with activities for everyone. The beautiful weather was perfect for a trip to Lake Canobolas where houses enjoyed a BBQ lunch. Movie nights brought us together for a bit of downtime, and there were many more cross-site activities such as making smores over the fire.

Last term, our boarding leaders had the opportunity to take part in a leadership course run by Mrs Byrne. It was a valuable experience for us all. The sessions helped us to reflect on our roles, develop confidence, and think deeply about what it means to be a leader, and how to be actively involved in our community. As part of the course, both PLC and WOL sites created a leadership mission statement, which was a reflection of our collective values and goals as the leaders of the boarding community. These mission statements will be shared at the end of this entry, and we hope they give you a sense of our commitment to making this year a positive one for everyone.

Looking ahead, we’re extremely exited for Boarding Week, which begins this Sunday 11 May. We’ve got a jam-packed calendar of events designed to celebrate our unique community and the amazing spirit that runs through it.

Some of the highlights include:

  • The Annual Boarder vs Day Students Tractor Pull and Bushman’s Relay
  • Charity Netball Game (Boys vs Girls)
  • Boarding Assembly
  • Invite a teacher to dinner
  • Boarding relay (Boarder vs Day Students)

This years theme for Boarding Week is “Threads of Connection”, which feels especially fitting. It’s a reminder that even though we all come from different backgrounds and experiences, we are woven together through shared moments, friendships and the support we give each other. Boarding life is about more than just living together - it’s about building lasting bonds and growing into well-rounded and confident individuals.

We’re looking forward to an unforgettable Boarding Week and a great term ahead!
