Principal Update

Melissa Mackenzie

The cold mornings have hit hard but the beautiful days remind us of the Autumn weather that Melbourne is known for.

There is an increase in illnesses around and some parents choosing to send their sick child to school. They present to sick bay during the morning session letting us know that their parents knew they were unwell before school. We also have the parents who “expect” the call when we ring to have the student collected.  Please consider the 20+ people in close contact with your sick child and keep them home if unwell. It is also quite difficult to source replacement teachers and so we are finding ourselves having to split classes on occasions where our teachers need to take sick leave.

Traffic

We have been working with Yarra Council for many years to improve the traffic safety around the area particularly at drop-off and pick-up times. The Council has recently installed new larger signs and yet we still have parents travelling the wrong way along the streets causing near misses. Please remind your children to use the crossings and to check both ways when crossing roads, they cannot rely on drivers doing the right things and we remind you off the one way traffic situation at pick up and drop off times. Please ensure you adhere to this.

National Simultaneous Story Time

Lizzy our librarian is currently reading 'The Truck Cat' with the Year 4’s in the library - along with all of the classes simultaneously across the school. This initiative is a National event promoted by the Australian Library and Information Association.

Thanks Lizzy for organising this event again this year.
