Music Matters
Oliver Twist: A huge congratulations to the talented cast, musicians, staff and crew who brought the beloved Dickens’ classic Oliver Twist to life in two captivating performances yesterday. Our Junior School audience was thoroughly entertained by Oliver's adventures and the colourful characters he meets along the way.
Tickets are still available for tonight’s performance ($30 at the door or via the links provided). Please note that tomorrow night’s final show is SOLD OUT!
Mothers’ Day Mass: next Wednesday, 7 May
Our Senior and Junior Chorales will be providing the music for this beautiful event in the College calendar. Parents should have received an email regarding transportation to Oxford Falls. There will be a bus leaving school at 7.15am for students not attending this mass with their mothers. All other choir members are asked to be at Oxford Falls by 8:00 am for a warm up and sound check.
Founder’s Day Mass rehearsal
This will then take place on Wednesday at the conclusion of the Mother's Day celebrations. This will involve the ‘Superband’ - students from the Senior Concert Band, College Orchestra, Drumline and both choirs. Students not already at Oxford Falls will be able to catch a bus from school departing at 10:35 am. All students will return to school by Period 6 and be given a pizza lunch.
Founder’s Day Mass
This will take place at Oxford Falls on Friday 9 May. All students involved are required to be at school for departure at 7:30 am for rehearsal and sound check. Students will return to school with their peers at the conclusion of the Founder’s Day celebrations.
Changes to timetable, Term 2
Due to the College trailing a new timetable in Term 2, (as outlined by Ms Watson in the last Woodchatta), students with lunchtime rehearsals will be allowed to leave their Period 4 classes 10 minutes early (unless doing an assessment) to allow them ample time to eat, get their instruments and rehearse. The longer recess will allow students to eat their main meal earlier.
The following ensemble members will be affected:
Mondays: College String Ensemble, Intermediate Guitar Ensemble
Tuesdays: Jnr Digital Music
Wednesdays: Junior Percussion, Junior Guitar Ensemble
Thursdays: Senior Percussion, Senior Guitar, Intermediate Digital Music
Fridays: Intermediate Percussion, Bass Guitar Ensemble.
Junior School students will either be collected from the Waterford Centre by their Ensemble Leader or the daily duty boy.
An Evening of Jazz with James Morrison
Get ready — it’s almost here!
Tickets are flying out the door to see the legendary Australian jazz icon James Morrison live at St Pius X!
On Friday, 23 May, James will spend the day inspiring our jazz ensemble students with exclusive workshops, followed by an after-school masterclass with his incredible quartet — open to all our keen musicians.
Then, the highlight of the day: a spectacular evening concert where James will light up the stage, performing alongside our talented jazz ensembles, his own world-class quartet, and our dynamic concert bands.
Performing Arts families — check your email for details about which students are performing and therefore won’t need a ticket.
