Founder's Day - Friday 9 May

We are looking forward to next Friday's Founder's Day at Oxford Falls.

Please note that this is a compulsory whole-school event.

Students should come to school at Chatswood (not straight to Oxford Falls) to be marked on the roll before buses will take students to Oxford Falls.

Year 12 students have been offered the opportunity to drive to and from the event.  They have received separate notification regarding this.

Students should wear sport uniform, and bring a water bottle and hat.

Students will receive a muffin on arrival and after Mass will share an early lunch together. Students are asked to bring something for lunch to share with their classmates (keeping in mind possible allergens).  We request that students do not bring their normal school bag, but rather a small bag containing their water bottle and food to share.

At the conclusion of the day students will commence returning to Chatswood on buses from 2:00 pm.  They will be dismissed immedately upon arrival back at Chatswood.

If parents wish to collect students from Oxford Falls, students should provide a note to their homeroom teacher on the day.  Parents can collect students at Oxford Falls from 2:00 pm.

ANZAC Day Reflection

At 5:00 am on Anzac Day, several Year 11 and 12 students had the opportunity to attend the morning dawn service at Chatswood War Memorial. This service provided a moment for us to reflect on the sacrifices of those who served Australia in times of war and peace. One story that stood out was the story of Lieutenant Albert Chowne VC, a local war hero from Sydney’s North Shore. Chowne was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery in World War II. In March of 1945 during a battle in New Guinea he lead his company under heavy Japanese fire, sacrificing himself to protect his men and secure the site. His courage and leadership are the perfect example of the Anzac spirit, mateship and selflessness. Hearing this story reminded us that people from our own local area stepped up and sacrificed their life for Australia.

Later that morning at Willougby Park we had the honour of listening to Major Sarah Winter of the Royal Army Nursing Corps. She shared with us her ties with Anzac Day with both her father and brothers serving in the Army and Navy. She reflected on how her childhood understanding of Anzac Day as simply ‘Dad's special day,’ with him dressing up in uniform and donning his medals, and how this transformed through her own experiences into a profound appreciation of  sacrifice and camaraderie. Major Winter's stories highlighted how the Anzac values of courage, compassion and resilience remain just as relevant in today's military. This personal reflection gave us students a new understanding of the significance and legacy of Anzac Day showing how ordinary Australians continue to demonstrate extraordinary commitment to our country.
