Grade 4/5

The 4/5’s have been engaging in activities that highlight the value of responsibility. They understand that it is their responsibility to ask for help when required and that doing so is a positive and brave act. We have talked about appropriate people to ask for help and how we can help others.
In reading, the 4/5 students have been focusing on developing their fluency reading skills. They listen attentively to their partner's reading and offer constructive feedback at the conclusion of the allotted reading time. The students have also completed a fluency and comprehension reading test this week.
In writing, the students have been studying conjunctions. They have been able to include conjunctions and the appropriate punctuation in sentence level writing.
In numeracy, the students have become experts at finding the perimeter and area of shapes. We have continued to work on Place Value- reading 6-digit numbers and they all enjoyed playing, ‘Beat the Teacher’ by creating the largest or smallest number.
As part of science, we have been studying mini beast. Did you know that there are 200 million insects for every person on earth? The students were fascinated at the interesting facts that were presented and loved the opportunity to go outside on a mini beast hunt. Students tallied up how many mini beasts they found and formulated their own scientific statement based off their data!
Have a lovely long weekend!
