School Wide Positive Behaviour Systems

SWPBS is one part of the universal supports we have in place to ensure our school is a safe, productive and happy place for all members of our community. We have a range of other measures that help to build our positive school culture including breakfast club, access to School TV, structured lunch activities (both indoor and outdoor), and a strong social and emotional literacy curriculum.

Each week students are explicitly taught key social and emotional skill aligned with our values. Lately, we have been focussed on resilience and responsibility, specifically in relation to students' ability to play games together in a safe and respectful manner. You can help support these important skills at home by playing games together and supporting children to demonstrate resilience when they do not win.  Take a closer look at the values covered over the past few weeks below.

Have you seen these coffee cups?

You may have noticed Respectful Relationships promoted around the town at the moment. The Respectful Relationships program supports schools and early childhood settings to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. The Hamilton Rotary Club and Southern Grampians Shire Council have been championing this initiative in our town recently and we have been lucky enough to take part in professional development with Dr Helen Cahill on the revamped curriculum as well as networking opportunities with private and public schools from around the district to ensure this program is collaborative and successful for our local community. Ms. Eales and Mr Barker have attended a local masterclass on revitalising this initiative at GSPS and are excited to be bringing the curriculum to life. GSPS already has a solid foundation for RR with our strong values education, positive modelling, health and social and emotional literacy curriculums and many of the lessons and topics are already explicitly taught in our school. You can expect to see the new RR curriculum rolled out formally in our school from 2026, ensuring we give our students a foundation for healthy relationships and a thriving community.
