Proposed pedestrian crossings to boost student safety
We’re excited to share some important news regarding student safety and community accessibility. We are in the early stages of collaboration with Kingston Council regarding the possibility of new pedestrian crossings in key areas around our school.
The proposed crossings aim to create safer routes for students walking or riding to and from school, particularly during busy morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. With increased traffic volumes and limited designated crossing points, safety concerns have been raised by parents, staff, and students alike. Thankyou to the parent group who proposed the transport study earlier in the year and are now progressing the concerns with Kingston Council.
The two key crossing locations currently being further investigated are Keith Street (Gerry Green playground entrance) and Morgan Street (at the rear of the school). If both crossing proposals are successful and installed, then there will be a redesign of each area which will alter the current parking arrangements and 'Kiss & Go' location at the rear of the school.
We believe these changes will greatly reduce the risk of accidents and encourage more families to choose active travel options like walking or riding. Importantly, these improvements reflect our shared commitment to student wellbeing and community safety.
We will continue to keep you updated moving forward when we receive any updates. Please let me know if you have any questions.
