Thank you so much to the parents who took the time to complete the survey on bullying that we sent home at the end of last term. This survey provided us with some really constructive feedback on bullying and the processes that currently exist within our school.
Jarrod Sing and myself are currently undergoing a deep engagement with Kristie Giannakis who is an Education Improvement Leader (EIL) with the department. Kristie comes out to meet with us fortnightly. When deciding on a project for us to undertake we had a look at all the data we had available to us as well as the recommendations made during our 2024 School Review. The Student Attitudes to School Survey last year had thrown up some interesting data around student perception of bullying so we chose this as our focus.
Our starting point was to investigate Bullying from the perspective of our staff, students and parents. I have attached the Parent Survey results for you as an image below and will endeavour to share the student results in future Focus articles. Going forward our next steps will be:
Promotion of the Bullying Intervention Policy as both parents and students had limited awareness of this. I advise parents to familiarise themselves with this policy and would love any feedback to be emailed to me in order to inform the development of an updated policy. Development of an updated Bullying Intervention Policy using input from parents, students and staff
A series of explicit lessons on bullying to be delivered to the whole school in Term 3 via the Wellbeing specialist program.
Development of monitoring and follow up procedures, specifically around incidents in the playground. Staff have been asked to carry clipboards and recording proformas whilst on yard duty. These folders will be reviewed weekly by myself to identify areas of the school that may be problems, to target students whose names appear regularly in the folders and to ensure that issues are being followed up appropriately
Upskilling of staff in the management of bullying or “mean on purpose” incidents
Development of supports to build capacity of students in dealing with bullying
As mentioned in the last Focus we will once again be participating in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge. I am currently working on the compilation of all of the student individual login codes and passwords. Watch out for Compass as I will notify you as soon as possible when you able to sign up. I aim to do this by Friday.
