Empowering Our Community: The Stand Up Project in Action

At Glen Waverley Primary School, we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful environment where every student can thrive. This commitment is exemplified through our participation in The Stand Up Project (SUP), a peer-led initiative designed to reduce discrimination, harassment and bullying by empowering students to become active Upstanders.

Following their initial training as SUP Leaders, our Year 6 SUP student leaders took the initiative to lead a professional learning session for our staff. This session provided valuable insights into the causes and impacts of poor behaviour and introduced practical strategies, known as the Four D's: Direct, Delay, Delegate, and Distract, to effectively address and prevent bullying. The students' leadership and dedication were truly inspiring, reinforcing the importance of student voice and agency in creating a positive school culture.

The Stand Up Project aligns seamlessly with our whole-school approach to wellbeing, complementing programs like The Resilience Project, which focuses on Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness, Emotional Literacy, and Connection. By integrating these initiatives, we aim to equip our students with the skills and confidence to stand up for themselves and others, fostering a community where everyone feels valued and supported.

To assist you further, we have included some resources from The Stand Up Project that provide additional information and practical tools for parents. These resources are designed to help you engage in meaningful conversations with your children about bullying prevention and the importance of being an Upstander.

We will also be providing a family information session, open to all families in the school (see below for invitation information).

We look forward to your participation and collaboration in this important initiative. Together, we can continue to build a school community where every child feels safe, respected, and empowered.

Warm regards,
